@@tower9969 I subscribed to your channel, thanks for the great information. I appreciate your recommendation regarding the Commscope DB365-OS clamp. My Rohn 25 tower has a 25AG4 top anchoring/bearing plate section. The section's top plate extends over/ outside of the legs. Curious if you have ever worked on a tower with this top section or bearing plate cap? Concerned whether or not the clamp provides enough clearance between the tower leg and gin pole to allow the gin pole to clear the edge of the top plate? Need to change out the antenna so the gin pole is required to pass the top plate.

I see what you mean.the clamps allow the gin pole to stand off from the section 2 or 3 inches off the top of my head.so yeah I believe it would clear. What antenna are you moving?.@@km4dr1

@@tower9969 Thanks again for the information. I downsized from a T8 on a 60 ft. tower to a 2 element 15m yagi on 28 ft. tower when we moved from six acres to a city lot. Want to take down the yagi and put up a hexbeam. Getting the hexbeam up will be really tricky but with a couple of tether lines attached and a ground crew I think it can be accomplished. I located a company in San Antonio that can special order the 2.0/1.5" x 12' 6061-T tubing. Appreciate all of your help. My brother Jan, K4QD, lives in West Melbourne.
@tower9969

@@km4dr1 yeah I'm one for three on the hex beams. All I can say is don't cut any corners on it, I learned that the hard way. I have one guy he put a hexBeam on a hazer, but we still had to get it up in the air to mount to mount to the hazer. As you build it you will see there is an opening in the wiring structure to get it oriented to go up and down the tower. Good luck. Did your brother Jan have some weather damage to his antenna about 4 years ago? Jan from West Melbourne sounds really familiar.

That tower was up there near 30 yrs. Anything needs maintenance at that age, including us. But the method of installation was sufficient, as you can see it was strong enough to be taken down. Nothing was broken, and it went smoothly.

Here is my trick: I pull up the next section when I am on the ground. Get it 'close' to being the right height for installation. Lift up the follow-on section about 18" off the ground and tie the pull rope to it. Now, when you get back up top, you have a natural counter-balance, which allow you to move the section up top around easily with one hand. With the top section, you WILL need the equivalent dead weight of some kind. I have installed any number of towers by myself, including my 140 footer. Also works with Rohn 45. 73 Glen K4KV

I am a 3rd year cable technician and only climb power post. I remember my first ladder climb and I was scared as hell. After 3 years I free climb them (yes ,against policy. 🤐) just another climb. After the baby step with my experience, I know for a fact with harness I would climb a tower with no worry. I tell this story because so many think they could never ,but you just need to get past the baby steps. I will also say that I don't think i would ever free climb a tower though hahaha I am strapping on.

Mine isn't adjustable and won't work well with Rohn towers. Can hook 1, but have to use ratchet stap for the other. Safe, no, but it works. Your design is better because it's adjustable.
