When my painting dries, it ends up showing the texture of the canvas. Is it because I didn't leave enough paint on the canvas?
@LeftBrainedArtist9 сағат бұрын
No you didn't have too little paint. I assume you used glue or Floetrol as your pouring medium? They dry really really thin. It probably bothers you 1000x more than it would anyone that bought or receive your painting as a gift. You could add a small bit of gac 800 or liquitex pouring medium to your paint mixture to help bulk it up a bit. I personally wouldn't worry about it.

Do I always need to put paint as a base ? I have read that you are not supposed to. A little confused, please help. Amazing tutorial thanks very much
@LeftBrainedArtist19 сағат бұрын
Required . . . absolutely not. However, a base can help move the paint around more and for some techniques allow you to keep more of the center of your pour to stay without getting as disfigured when tilting.

Stumbled across this when looking for acrylic paint reviews. The channel host has probably learned this since publishing this: there are different lightfastness rating/marking methods. In Arteza - 3 means excellent lightfast, 2 means good. Another example of a budget, but excellent paint line - Hobby Lobby Masters Touch - uses this inverted rating: 3 being excellent, 2 being good. Many paints follow this rating system. So when looking for lightfastness information - check to see which method is being used. Some professional paints will use a couple. One such example is Chroma Atelier paints. They use 1 as excellent, 2 as good,but also provide BSL ratings. Winsor & Newton give a permanence rating. As I benefit from people doing reviews, I feel obligated to add information to help out. So make sure to check to see which rating system is being used.
@LeftBrainedArtist3 күн бұрын
Thanks. I knew the lightfastness ratings but was curious how craft paint, which doens't have an rating, would hold up. Plus I go by the motto "trust but verify" when it comes to what manufacturers tell me.
@ronweed20302 күн бұрын
I've seen several of your podcasts, and figured you did. I just noticed, for a few years, the alt inverted 1 star equals poor, 2 good, and 3 excellent, has been mixed up with the 1 equals excellent, 2 good, 3 poor. I also appreciate people testing lesser known paints. Sometimes it's frustrating - like Royal & Langnickel. These are good starter paints with excellent properties - but they refuse to post ratings. It could be they switch pigment vendors regularly, so don't want to post - fearing potential inaccuracies, and consequences. Given that pigment prep dictates how lightfast some colors will be ... I'm more of a traditional painter but mix methods sometimes. So I'll use any decent paint from student to professional - based on what the paint formula is good for - and my painting technique. Some are great for blending - example: you tested Grumbacher. These paints are not surpassed for blended rendering. Even Golden open (I use both for things like figure rendering) isn't better - just give more time. This property in Grumbacher, makes them poor for the pour painting most do - as you noted. Good channel👍

help please Cant figure out why i cant get large cells. ive used the glue all pouring medium with silicone, as well as floetrol medium with silicone. paints at 1 mound per sevone and also tried a little thicker. using 1 drop per ounce of paint mixture. im just starting and am using craft paints and inexpensive rube paints
@LeftBrainedArtist3 күн бұрын
Use one drop per 2 ounces of paint, torch after pouring but before tilting. Wait a few minutes for the cells to develop before tilting. That will give you the maximum size of cells. Leaving your paint mount upon a mound consistency will also help.

Hello, thank you for your complete tutorial, please tell me what causes bubbles?
@LeftBrainedArtist6 күн бұрын
There are a couple of reasons: 1) mixing introduces bubbles in the paint and those come out as cells in your artwork 2) additives like silicone create cells 3) differences in density of mixed paints cause heavy paints to sink and lighter paints to rise which create cells 4) paints with different sheens have a similiar affect to #3 and can cause cells
