That is a lovely insight. I must say I had thought more layers would be needed after a recent project myself. Thanks for sharing this tip

Exactly what I experienced this morning. Used AL pouring paint to cover the sides of the canvas. EXTREMELY thin. Luckily, I made too much paint (as usual), and it flowed over nicely. Now, if I could get the cells to "hold". Thank you for another VERY useful lesson. I watched your varnish video last night. I have so many paintings to complete. You took the anxiety out of it. The available space in my house, looks like a starving artist's storage unit!😂 You have helped me so much.

I haven't used the AL pouring paint so not sure how to make it better but I assume if it was a little thicker it would help the cells.

Well of course this makes sense - but we don't think about it UNTIL you show us! Thanks once again David!

I know right? I can't tell you how many times I've finally though about something liks this and said "what was I thinking?!?"

@@LeftBrainedArtist Well I can tell you, for me, I'm thinking about other things! What colors do I like together, what recipe, how much, what design, what setting on hair dryer......etc. etc. etc. SO now YOU have thought about my sides - so grateful for what you do!

Good info here. I didn’t realize how the PM changes the opacity of the paint. I just assumed it was because the tube paint was thicker so would cover more, but it’s good to know it’s actually the PM. Have a great weekend!

Thanks for responding to me David. Much appreciated. After watching your videos on colour combinations and learning more about how to mix colour, I’m buying a colour wheel today. I recently printed your sheet on “How Much Paint” and find it invaluable, especially for me as a beginner. Fascinated by all your techniques and very grateful for sharing your knowledge. Keep producing please. Annette from Australia.

Great to hear Annette. Wish I was in Aus so I could get that Aussie Floetrol for a decent price.

That's a great tip to paint the sides with undiluted paint before starting. Another helpful video (of course). Thanks David.

I always do two coats with pure paint on the sides first and let it dry completely before pouring.👍

I was surprised to see how transparent the the pouring medium make your paint.
@LeftBrainedArtist Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it doesn’t take much of any kind of liquid to really make the paint way more transparent

I always look forward to your videos. I have seen how a lot of artists protect the backs of their canvases. What do you do?

I don't do anything currently but I also don't sell many paintings so I haven't really had to think about it.

Just wondering in general - perhaps you've covered it in a prior video. When working on a horizontal surface, how many different ways do people either fasten their canvas / panel to their working surface (to keep it still while they're working on it)......or raise their canvas or panel up and out of any mess that might be created underneath? Or maybe both simultaneously.
@LeftBrainedArtist Жыл бұрын
I touch on it in a few different videos. There are thumb tacks (I use super sized ones), or hanging hooks (if you need to level with the feet cause your table is skewompus), painters triangles, a drying rack, a painting containers, Straight on a surface (not recommended), or in a turntable or cake spinner. Those are the most common ones.

@@LeftBrainedArtist I've been working a lot lately with texturing with spackle / joint compound and or modeling paste. I'd like to work with a large vertical surface (36"X36") but not sure how mount the plank.
@LeftBrainedArtist Жыл бұрын
@@johnjordan2354 You could use thick two sided tape to 2x4s or something like that.

Good tip. Don’t know how I missed this video. What kind of canvas is that with the thick sides? And where do you typically get them? I ask because only the large canvases I have are thicker like that
@LeftBrainedArtist Жыл бұрын
These are the Level 2 and 3 canvases from Artist's Loft. They are 1 1/2" sides instead of the normal 1/2" sides.
