Hi, Elizabeth. Full disclosure; I'm writing off topic from the above video (fantastic as it is). You had recently begun diving into Journey. I may not have written before, but I've been a fan of yours for quite a while. And it's clear to me that, while you focus on the vocals, you also have a great appreciation for the instrumental talents and production values. Which is why I'm recommending you do a reaction and analysis of Journey's "Send Her My Love". Not only are Steve Perry's vocals superb as usual, but there's a chord change that can rip your heart out, and Neal Schon's guitar work is pure beauty, perfectly responding melodically to Steve's vocals. I think this is one you will find a great appreciation for. Also, speaking of vocalists, Steve Perry was the third singer to front the band, and by far the best. Back in their beginning, Greg Rolie and Neal Schon had moved on from playing in Santana and founded Journey. Greg played keys and sang the lead vocals, just as he had with Santana and a few other groups he was in. When Steve joined the group, there were a few songs where the two of them switched off, sharing lead vocal duties, and creating a great sound. For a good example of that, I recommend "Feelin' That Way," produced by Roy Thomas Baker, who also produced Queen and other top charting acts, focusing on vocal harmonies. But fair warning, this song doesn't have the emotional impact of my first recommendation, "Send Her My Love." Enjoy, Julanni

I recommend you analyze "The Prophet Song" from this same album, which in my opinion is on par with Bohemian Rhapsody. I hope you read this simple comment and take it into account. I love your analysis and how much you enjoy music.

49:15 What Freddie was adjusting was the mic gain for the piano. Somewhere in the chain, there was just a touch of clipping, and he brought it below the clipping threshold. The difference in gain was almost unnoticeable, but the clipping goes away. Sorry I missed this one!

Queen’s It’s A Hard Life (Studio versus Live in Rio) or Who Wants To Live Forever (Studio versus Live in Budapest) which shows off Freddie’s Operatic Approach to singing in an even clearer way

The harmonies are all of Queen overlayed with themselves to multilayer it until the tape nearly broke.

The vocal harmonies through the song were not all Freddie. It was Brian May, Freddie and the drummer (who has a 4 octave vocal range). Each vocalist multi tracked each of the vocal parts which is how the vocals sound so smooth and have such a huge sound.

I would have loved to have been in the room when they presented this to the record execs. They wouldn't know what to do with it but would immediately tell them to make it shorter or it won't be on the radio. Hah, would they have been wrong?! There are endless stories of the record company people think they know everything about music but often have no vision. Much respect to those artists that stood up for their creation, regardless of how it is accepted. Rush's 2112 is another example that comes to mind.

As a suggestion for finding a bulk of items for new content, back in the prog rock era there were several albums cut that were fairly cohesive as a unit. Rather than select individual songs you could do all of the songs of an album as a playlist. The old heads will remember late night FM radio "album hour".

I was born in 1980. When I was in 6th grade, this song went onto the Wayne's World soundtrack, effectively rereleasing the song as a contemporary single from my youth. It was on the radio multiple times a day. So it was a 90s song as well. People my age and over might be the only ones who recall.

Freddie got a lot of praise for his voice, and rightly so, but I think it was his songwriting ability that was off the charts. Also his piano playing. It was his piano playing that first attracted me to this song, believe it or not. It was that piano riff immediately following that A cappella intro that drew me in.....and then of course the 3 other fantastic musicians that comprise the rest of the band.

Should have done the video, being that it was your first time hearing this. The synthesizer intro buildup dropping into the opening guitar riff blow your mind. I remember I was a teenager listening to the FM radio with my walkman headphones on while laying in bed. I sat straight up as soon as it dropped and I probably looked like I'd just seen a monster. I still get chills down my spine when that I hear that section. They didn't use that opening in this concert. And while Knopfler's playing was great as usual, his vocals here sounded like he was bored and mailing it in after performing it thousands of times. Also, for penance at not having recognized the inestimable Eric Clapton on the other guitar, you must review "Cocaine", one of his all-time greatest hits. I'll be waiting. I just stumbled across your channel today by accident while looking for a Jethro Tull video. I've been watching for a few hours at this point. I don't know how old you are, possibly younger than my own two children. I respect that you are coming at this from a professional view, paying special attention to the vocals. But what I like best is your almost childlike enthusiasm and wonder at discovering some of the best music ever produced. It's making me appreciate my own favorites even more. Thank you!
