On the fortin nameless plugin what I liked the most was not the "METAL" tones but how it cleaned up. Do you guys have any suggestion how to design the gain staging to achieve this? My current conclusion is that on the available Fortin-like scematics all the cathode sections stay the same! That has to be important, though I still don't know if I should go with the 820R or the 2k7. Then I know there has to be some chipping away at some points to tailor it and prevent some harsh buildup. Any suggestion is welcome, and I don't want to necessarily copy it, just understand what's going on. Also, weirdly I did not like the Cali plugin at all. (just putting it here, as a reference)

I saw Airbourne play over 10 years ago in a small club in Madison, Wisconsin. They both were using 2 Marshall stacks each. It was one hell of a loud and rocking show! Thanks Jason for the great work you do keeping these amps making the sounds we love!!

I have a Super Lead reissue (1990) that was modded by Suhr Amplification. It has no clean tone, just straight to break-up and I kinda wish it had some old school chime. It does however do some great metal tones without any pedals so I guess we just learn to love what we inherit!

I love the fact that they let the amp do the work for distortion ,pretty sure Angus does the same, a few of my favorite guitar players growing up did the same ,but I will say that if you can get the same outcome at low volumes to practice thats badass as well

Seemingly subtle sonic improvements but when all seven get taken care of what a sound it’ll be. Great sounding amp. That center tap ground. Lol. But hey it works. Curious if that ground scheme will go in the other amps. Looking forward to this series.

I'm surprised that the AIrborne guys don't use Axe FX or Line 6. We all know that Digital is superior to tube 7 days a week and twice on Sunday. Digital is also superior to Tubes 4x every week day and 8x every weekend day. Do these guys read? Do they get Guitar Player For The Practicing Musician? Can they understand more than one "command" function? Glad you got to work on these museum pieces. But you should really steer them towards great gear that makes their shows better, they will sound better and then they will sound more consistent. THAT is your responsibility to them. Tubes are for masturbation. Digital is for real sex. Tubes are for posters. Cardboard tubes. Digital is for REAL musicians who care about the fans getting consistent audio from show to show.

To my ears they are similar BUT I'm not in the room. so can't hear the resonance. Mercury are however bulletproof in quality and longevity and I've no doubt they will outlast the amp. Sad to see the big M like so many unsold brands (you'd think they would have learnt from CBS etc) who cost cut you invariably kill the brand.

The 1 to 2 nF anti ice pick cap to ground, do you think it matters if it is located right after the gain input, or rather after the second triode's grid resistor? I've seen in the Ceriatone yeti stuff that it's located after the resistor, right before the grid.

Ya knew it was going to happen... once Jim Marshall was done and gone,...2nd and 3rd generation's do not care about quality,... they care about money,.... their ALWAY'S trying to capitalize on something.. that somebody once did.. that was good,... mine ALL say Milton Keyes,... and the transforer's are Drake's,...and my speaker' say Ipswich England,... the only way to go........

Cold bias sounds scooped with more raspy highs. A lot of Mesa owners prefer cold bias for that reason. To me, hotter bias just sounds better, more "alive."

FYI if you follow everything shown in this video the amp will not work, the cable mods and work that must happen on the controls board is not included in this video. I had to study the later live stream about the Origin 50 but is confusing because all is not spelled out and its made more complicated by the addition of the diode mods in the amp shown in the video. No novice will be able to complete this Origin 50 mod package! All that said, the ideas presented here are very cool and well thought out and when I did complete my Origin 50 the results were fantastic!!! Thank you for sharing your time Jason to make all these free videos, just think you should warn people about the missing puzzle pieces. cheers

Switch mode power supplies aren't all that bad when properly filtered
@PaulLebow
@PaulLebow 9 күн бұрын
Thanks for the great explanations. Why are the filter resistors in the power supply output not included in the plate load resistance for the DC load line? It seems everything is interdependent.
@HeadfirstAmps
@HeadfirstAmps 9 күн бұрын
Good question. While a dropping resistor will have current flow and therefore develop a voltage based on the demands of the triodes, any effect they may have is negated by the massive filter cap (eg. 50uF) that sits on that node as part of the B+ supply.
@PaulLebow
@PaulLebow 9 күн бұрын
@@HeadfirstAmps I can see that for the AC signal but when finding the DC load line and quiescent point do the filter caps come into play?
