As much as I appreciate hearing this for the first time, I wish Norah Jones would consider having someone connected to her official media, get around to COMPILING the many cover's and standards she's done. I say that mostly because I feel that far too many [out there] just don't appreciate just how truly GOOD she is. No one does a cover like her. No one [IMO] taps into the emotion of a song when the lyrics REALLY matter, the earnest conviction of doing the material justice. No one does that quite like Mr's Jones. If all the standards and cover's she's done in her career had an official place to call "home" then I feel that more people would realise the real quality of this fantastic musician. Now I know the following will likely make me sound like a hypocrite, but I also kind of feel like it's dishonest in a way for videos such as this to "piggyback" off of that kind of brilliance, whether originally meant as a homage to it, or not.

I remember discovering this song when I discovered Randy Newman. She does a beautiful rendition. The visual imagery is spot on.

What to say? I very much like Newman's version for its profound sadness, but I might like this one better. This live version seems to be dragging and speeding up, like putting emphasis on specific words or tones. The slight changes it causes, combined with Norah's voice, are extremely beautiful to me.

I mean.. Judy and Nina did versions of this song.. it’s not a flattering juxtaposition. Maybe not the best look.

Randy's chords just set the scene beautifully. I like the little changes Norah puts in. This song fits her like a glove. Beautiful.

In prison at 18. Heard Art and liked him. 1966 was culturally naive. There was no way he could be white. Bam!!! Val showed me album cover. Learn something everyday and keep an open mind. Exactly what history makers do. Of course one must drag the tin cans of the past into the future with; it don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got swing. Innovation/change. Same hook different look! Love

The “Quartet” is: Joe Farrell - tenor saxophone, flute, oboe Chick Corea - piano Dave Holland - double bass Jack DeJohnette - drums …but interestingly, on this track, playing on his own composition, John McLaughlin is on guitar, and Chick Corea is absent… In less than 2 years, both of these graduates from the Miles Davis Bitches Brew School would each be leading his own first-generation Fusion band. This is an early release on the “independent” CTI (Creed Taylor International) label: Creed Taylor had made his bones several years earlier producing accessible-yet-intelligent stuff for Wes Montgomery and George Benson (among others) on the label as an A&M subsidiary starting in 1967, and it went independent in 1970, the year this recording was released.

Most people fail to understand the irony in this song They take it literally That is a mistake It's about our approach to the poor which Is condescending at best! The conversation in the song is between two homeless people who are tired of those who would set them straight: Scarecrows dressed in the latest styles! Human kindness is overflowing because it's not! That is irony And that is why the homeless response is a non sequitur I think it's going to rain today In other words, nothing changes, life goes on the same
