Brian is Da Man "Action", surprised you didn't mention Ostins Fish Friday nights (a Barbados Cultural experience). Welches beach is also a great spot for Winging and many of the locals go there. The ZR vans are a great way to get around and you can take your gear for an extra fare ($2.00 US). I will be back there again next week (Forecast 15 kts + for 2 weeks, sometimes you get lucky ;)

hey that was an amazing break down of the islands spots. Bravo ! been looking for just this kinda vid. I was in La Ventana winging and had a blast But because I prefer waves this looks like a better place. How many days of wind did you get and how many knots?
@greatlakeswaterman5 сағат бұрын
Thanks!! Excellent spot for Waves! I had 4 days of light wind. So went surfing and SUPing. Then 4 days of 15-20 knot winds. Was on a 4M wing with foil. 9M Kite surfboard

I am heading here to wing with the family at the end of Feb off the back of your review. What is the water depth like at high/low tide. I normally run a 85cm mast on a sinker board so need good depth to avoid hitting the bottom. Or is it better to avoid the sinker - it looked like you were on a mid-length for most the time?
@greatlakeswaterman11 күн бұрын
It’s shallow. Sinker might be tough. Probably do able. But I wouldn’t use a sinker. Room on the inside isn’t that big. And you have to use a narrow channel to get outside. Your family will have a great time enjoy!
@norfolkfoiler64668 күн бұрын
@ ok thank you very much. What length mast did you run? Does tide state make a difference?

Great video 🤙🤙🤙💪 just a quick question. You weight 75 kgs and you use 75 liters board? If yes will this be more difficult in swell to get up compared to a board of 65 or 70 liters for your weight?
@greatlakeswatermanАй бұрын
So the board I currently use and really like is 70L. Also im usually in a wetsuit, which would add some weight. A 5L difference pretty minimal, I would think you’d be fine with 65L

Good review thanks... am on the fence on buying a parawing, but will maybe rerig my 6m foil kit to a broomstick handle and test first. I can see upwind riding would be challenging vs an inflatable wing.
@greatlakeswatermanАй бұрын
I was hesitant too. I’ll use it for certain conditions. Can’t see it being my goto. That will be a fun experiment with the foil kite!
@sagesendsАй бұрын
how common are conditions like this out there?
@greatlakeswatermanАй бұрын
They are uncommon. Few times a year.
@bmrbca3658Ай бұрын
The problem with using these for down winding is if you are out and the wind dies, it's going to be a long paddle back in. Especially if you are on a mid length
@greatlakeswatermanАй бұрын
Great Point. Never get yourself into a situation, where you don’t think you can get yourself out of. Like breaking paddle, loss of energy. Know your limit, stay within it. Ok push it a little haaa got to live

Fantastic review. Excellent point on the Great Lakes shore break, I didn't consider. Challenging enough with the wing. Can you imagine the potential Kitemare scenarios when we take these in bigger waves? Do you carry a hook knife?

Not sure if you have done much prone foiling, but if you have wondering how you may rank that compared to DW foiling, since DW foiling requires a much bigger board is the fun diminished compared to a small 40/50 ltr board. I am still debating wether to go the DW route or get into prone foiling.
@greatlakeswatermanАй бұрын
You’re right there will be a loss on performance. But what you gain is more waves. Catching waves earlier. Prone foiling. I’ve done a little bit of it. I found by the time I’m on my feet and on foil, I’ve missed the section I want to ride. Or wave has closed out. Ultimately I’d love to ride a short board in perfect waves. In my opinion the DW sup foil is the right tool for the job around here, given our conditions. With a SUP DW you can DOwnind with it, Ride shore break, and wing with it. Also a 7’ board doesn’t feel long. You’re standing right in the middle of it. Either way you choose you’ll have fun!
@aquaman1Ай бұрын
Hey Mike. How far offshore do you need to be , on a typical day, to find the best swells? Can you explain the reasoning? Is closer to shore have more wave interference?
@greatlakeswatermanАй бұрын
Hey, so depends on a few things. Wind angle relative to shore line, being main thing. Typically, I’m about 2 km offshore average? As the water gets shallower, closer to shore the waves slow down causing them to “curl” into shore. By looking at the water you would think it’s onshore but really the wind is blowing side shore. This is called wave refraction I believe. The further you go out, the Cleaner, the waves in the less traversing you will have to do. If you can get a strong breeze, that’s about 20 to 40° offshore from the shoreline that’s optimal. As I have progressed I can traverse probably 70° to the wind angle. No constantly. When DOWNwind the forecast and looking at the water definitely is put into a different lens. I enjoy it. It’s part of the adventure and you ultimately learn more. I always keep in mind how much energy I have and never put myself in a spot where I don’t think I can paddle back in…
@aquaman1Ай бұрын
@michaelpisarczyk6465 to your observation, there would be no advantage of a boat chase down the middle of the lake, or a lake crossing. I was wondering if the waves were bigger 10km offshore, but I can't find reason why they would be. The sciece says wave refraction will start at half the wave "Length " . Probably worse waves far offshore because the uninterrupted swells are flatter and move faster. However, when I'm at the shoreline of the Great Lakes it looks like massive swells breaking on the horizon. Next season you should do a lake crossing for science. ;)
@greatlakeswatermanАй бұрын
@@aquaman1 ya lake crossing would be amazing!! I’m game for sure. Just need a boat driver…. I’ve done a lot of sailing. Several trips Sarnia to Tobermory straight. Also couple Mackinac races. I think once your a few KMs out it about the same. So hard to compare. I know what you’re saying, looking at the horizon. Got me thinking…

.Thinking of coming here. If you stay in the family area are you allowed, as an adult to wonder over to the adults side and leave the teenagers in the family area?! Also, what's the beach like?
@greatlakeswatermanАй бұрын
U can go wherever u want. Not really divided. There’s another serenity resort kind of attached that’s adults only but not on the beach. Beach is long. Windward side of island, so usually a breeze, with some chop in the water. It’s large so u can always find seating and never seen it busy. Which is my favorite part.

Hello thanks!! This was actually the St. Clair River. Which Lake Huron drains into. The wind opposes the current and you get some nice wave action. I usually stay on Lake Huron, and occasionally Lake Erie. A lot of potential here 10,000 miles of coastline!
@leebonfiglioАй бұрын
I thought the parawing was going to make the sport even more amazing but it can't compare to the feeling of a paddle up session. Its great for getting laps in and working on skills but i still love the feeling of the energy as it passes under my board and then the paddle up to tap into that and surf away

Hey I’m in same boat but 3 years behind you. What parameters you describe front foil for down wind For Great Lakes for your weight? I found myself in spending lots of cash to find right gear . Ended up on FD its help a lot but 3 year experience i think help better! 😅 thanks!
@greatlakeswatermanАй бұрын
For me right now I try and match the foil to the conditions. Biggest size I use is Lift 180HAX (1161cmsq), for small days. Then down to Florence 110 (710cmsq), big days 30 knots with lots of fetch. “Daily drivers would be Lift 150 HAx (970sqcm). Using the Florence 130 (860sqcm) more and more. It has taken me a lot to figure it all out. I usually choose the right foil, maybe 90 percent time. It’s knowing the spot the run and conditions. A lot of looking at the water and thinking and riding. Winging is a great way to learn the feels of a foil. When I started I was using LiFt 200HA. (1290sqcm)
@yuriybilous9560Ай бұрын
@ thanks for sharing!! That’s i learned too …. I will need lots of foils(( . Will starting use wing to learn read waves. If you would have just one board, what kind you would choose if you take look back ?thanks!
