I visited Salisbury , NC and there was a very old hotel there. I took many pictures of it during summer.and in winter. One time in winter I just thought about this dialogue. That hotel and that wintery moment will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Ironically if you actually compare directly the length of time require to learn how to be an offshore driller to the actual real time spent training astronauts how to go to space, offshore drilling is far longer. Only 20-30% of most space training programs are actually related to space itself, and if you cut out things like habitat training, space station training, EVA, etc it would be even less. It's actually pretty believable that in a time sensitive emergency like this you would train a drill team in the basics of it all and then send them up with a team of pilots who know everything else. People always act like they are flying the ships or something, they are basically just passengers and have no actual duties related to space travel.

Jack makes a mistake in his lines…….he says Grady chopped his wife and daughter up - infact he chopped his wife and daughters up, there were two daughters. They both received of a chopping, thereof, in a manner of speaking - they were corrected

For me it's the fact that a nuke on the surface of an asteroid of that size is enough to shift it's trajectory and more so if you meet it early on. Nasa trains drillers to be astronauts but the movie is over If we just send like three of our many nukes in succession to push the damn thing away from the get go.

A far fetched concept in a movie can be justified with just 5 minutes of good exposition writing than can help suspend the audiences disbelief. What they SHOULD have done was have NASA initially recruit the drillers to train their astronauts which they agree to BUT after weeks of training a meteor strike devastates Texas almost destroying NASA headquarters, nearly a dozen or so Astronauts set to go on the mission are killed… BOOM, now you have your movie. They didn’t take them into space because they thought it was a good idea, they did it because they had no choice and they are now desperate.

The funniest part is that NASA astronaut engineers would be better drillers than any driller on earth, they are quite literally the best in their field to do this type of work. Better yet, engineers at nasa would understand drilling better than anyone that works on commercial drill rigs. Mostly becasue those types of people are the people that invent and design those sorts of things, lmfao. This movie was really stupid, for stupid people, but entertaining. One of the reasons our population is so stupid is becasue of garbage dumpster written movies like this.

4:30 the facial expressions kind of feel like the little bit of fatherly instinct is still there, but still in a twisted way and attempt he is trying to move the focus on the son to the mother instead. but then grady is like "why not both?" and you know what? yeah, why not? or more simply he doesn't really have all that much of a problem with his son, but obviously the ghost doesn't want the son to bring the help, whereas jack would rather "correct" the mother. and then yeah, why not both yadayadayada

Well this is hardly a sparkling insight into the soul of the movie. It was always a silly movie. The problem was that it wasn’t a Die Hard movie, where the “regular guy” could beat the allegedly “sophisticated” terrorist-thieves because they weren’t really sophisticated or terrorists.

I remember loving this movie. Not because it's realistic, but because of it's batshit crazy action movie logic. "An oil driller is the best person to send into space to blow up an asteroid", where else but Hollywood would you get such an insane sentence and not be called a troll for writing it?
