One my favorite movies of all time! The screenplay is written by Jimmy Baca. He played one of the characters in La Onda. In real life he was incarcerated for 5yrs . Learned to read and write in prison. He said that each character Miklo, Cruz and Paco are a representation of parts of himself. Cruz the artist- Baca is a writer and poet, Paco the one full of anger and his redemption, Miklo- the one who feels they don’t fit in and rejected by most. Danny Trejo said they sign contracts for two movies. The sequel was never made. I agree with you guys this should be a series, Netflix perhaps?

Originally called bound by honor and it was a box office failure. But thru VHS and dvd it has become a cult classic and many actor do meet n greets do this day. Original cut is 5 hours, although noone has seen those 2 extra hours, you can see images from new scenes on the internet.

A little fact. The original cut of the movie was actually near 5hrs long but the studio said that was too long so they cut it down to 3hrs. Its said that the 5hr version delved more into pacos personal life, what ended up happening to popeye and montanas daughter getting involved with miklo years later and a plethora of other things. I imagine it would’ve had a different ending if the studio approved the 5hr version. Disney owns the right to this movie, so somewhere out there are the deleted scenes or it could be that the footage was lost.

Irl, in Cali at that time its mainly only in riots when you have interracial killings. Mostly they politic and disputes are handled internally to prevent riots

The prison parts are roughly based on the true story of the Mexican Mafia. the movie American Me with Edward James Olmos will give you a more spot on story of how the Mexican Mafia started and operated.

I love this movie. I grew up watching it & love that it’s really a story about 3 brothers & the paths that they take. Everything else just ties in to their stories. I also like how this movie doesn’t demonize or glamorize any of the main characters. It just tells their stories. New subscribers. Viva Vatos Locos
