Baba Obasanjo will continue to lament because he refused to seize his God-given opportunities to write his name on the platter of gold. I am not sure if I should even use the word ‘God-given’ in this case because Baba Obasanjo sacrificed almost all good character in him to secure those opportunities. He did his best to please his masters to the extent that his masters could not see any Yoruba man that could lead Nigeria in 1999, except their faithful servant in Prison. It is a fact that the activities of Baba Obasanjo in the South West led to the emergence of such characters like President Tinubu and his followers from that part of the country. We all know that Baba Obasanjo constantly attacked the institutions and individuals standing for policy-based political ideology in the South West and the peak of such activities was the killing of Chief Bola Ige, who happened to be the last renowned man standing for such political ideology. If Baba Obasanjo had not committed in the South West, Tinubu wouldn’t have emerged from that region and rise to the present position with his kind of present character i.e no one exhibiting characters like Tinubu would have emerge from that region and rise to the position of President. I believe Tinubu borrowed from Obasanjo game plan by submitting to the owners of Nigeria like Obasanjo did and rose to the top, so that he will not end up like Awolowo and Bola Ige who refused to submit them.

So, according to Baba Obasanjo, the Nigerian state was not captured when he was picked up from the prison and imposed on Nigerians as president.

Look at Nigerians here all lauding Obasanjo like he wasn't the one that started every single thing that he is accusing this useless government of. He Obasanjo did a lot of great things, especially economically and socially but he failed woefully in the things that could have actually fundamentally changed the country and put it on the right path, which are things like corruption, rule of law and holding people accountable. Unfortunately there are many ignorant Nigerians who think that for a country like Nigeria with the kind of problems we have, building extravagant projects to show that someone is working is more important than instituting rule of law and creating a society where there is justice and accountability. That is why some people will tell you today that Jonathan was a great president, forgetting so easily that the only reason so many people voted for Buhari, including many Christians who knew he was a religious bigot, was because of how corrupt and terrible Jonathans governemnt was. Just because Buhari ended up being worse does not in any way make Jonathan a good president. This government deserves to be blasted everyday, but before OBJ can give the kind of speech that he gave, he needs to also acknowledge his part in the kind of society we have today.
