YES, EVERY PA should be a member. Everyone thinks their national association should support them but very few people realize that they need to support the association for it to work for them. Love the "free" CMEs. A Conference costs you at least what your membership costs. Everything after that is a bonus!

Is there career progression fo pas in Germany?
@TheMedicineCouch2 күн бұрын
I'm not really sure, but I would bet that it will take longer for natural career development to appear. That has been the case here in the US. First the profession had to get established with people understanding what PAs are, then PAs starting branching out and looking for opportunities. I would say to PAs in Germany, to not be too timid with this. You are intelligent, educated people, so don't hesitate to go for opportunities that interest you!

Did you even watch the video? She clearly states that this is not hospice. Many of the patients don't have terminal illnesses, meaning they can recover to their regular health. For others, they may not be able to return to full health, so Palliative Care helps steer people through an illness helping them figure out what they really want and what treatments, if any, would be best for them. She also clearly states that sometimes stopping treatment is the best plan. While I don't work in Palliative Care, for the 9 years that I have been a PA, I never once offered or considered a treatment for someone based on revenue. Most of sincerely do our best to suggest what we think is best for the patient.

No matter how good you are, you are still a PA. There is a glass ceiling in the PA profession. Most PA’s are not allowed on facility medical Boards and you cannot practice without an MD signing off on your credentials/scope. Therefore the job has zero autonomy. It’s not a problem when you are young but it wears on you later in life. On a plus side the salary is good. I went to PA school after the military and came from a blue collar upbringing. If you are starting out from high school with the plan to go in healthcare as a provider. Do your future self a favor and go to medical school!
@TheMedicineCouch8 күн бұрын
It is a fact that PAs have less ability to branch out than physicians, but I have to disagree with you a bit on what you've said. In the 3 years of doing this channel, I have interviewed so many PAs out there doing jobs must of us never realized we could do, and becoming leaders in all kind of capacities at different facilities. I've also talked to those that have carved out niche practices for themselves, opened their own practices, or started their own healthcare companies. On top of that, there are a multitude of medicine related, non-clinical jobs that PAs can move into. So, while agree it is harder and maybe medical school might be right for some people, that "glass ceiling" can often times be punched through or gone around. At the end of the day, we all (for the most part) have at least a Master's degree. That right there can open doors to a ton of opportunities. Most of the rest just require us to reframe our thinking, figure out what we really want, and unapologetically go for it!

@TheMedicineCouch9 күн бұрын
True. Honing in on the most unusual details is a really good strategy. However, a search for velvety patches could lead to lots of different references, especially if people couldn’t remember the medical term “acanthosis nigricans”. So, I just wanted to show people other ways to search. I should’ve made a point of saying that that is a great detail to hone in on and search for, so thank you for pointing that out here!

Wien I started school psychologists pay was $165,000.00 and higher in private practice. Now psychologists start around $68,000.00 up to $125,000.00. Definitely would love to connect with Medical legal consultants.

SmartyPANCE was the main reference source that I used for the full two years of taking the PANRE-LA. I found it to be very helpful. In this video below, I have a short tutorial on how to use it. You can check the timestamps below the description box to go directly to the tutorial if you don’t want to watch the whole video. Also, there is a coupon code in the description box for 10% off of SmartyPANCE. I do plan on making a video in the next couple of months that is more about, figuring out how to approach a question and figure out the keyword to focus on for your search. In that video, i’ll be using the SmartyPANCE search tool. So keep an eye out for that! kzbin.info/www/bejne/npLOnKCtaLGpmMksi=6J73fJRCCXQCZsW4

I have realized I don’t want to be a nurse. I have worked side by side with nurses & I prefer the medical model to the nursing model. PA is something I’m interested in because I’m interested in finding solutions to health problems. Nurses unless they’re NP can’t diagnose and treat patients. Thanks for this video. ❤❤
@TheMedicineCouch29 күн бұрын
You’re welcome! You’re right, they’re both good paths, but they are different. It was good to figure these things out before heading one way or the other. Of course, I always say that I think nurses who end up going to PA school instead of NP school have the best of both worlds. I wish you all the best in your medical journey!
@writingismagic559729 күн бұрын
I believe PAs are a great asset not only to the health provider team but to physicians. They’re probably much more of an asset because they understand the physician mindset. They both study under the medical model whereas nps study under the nursing model. I see nurses butt heads with drs on a regular basis. The other thing physician assistants have healthcare experience prior to PA school which physicians typically don’t. They just understand both sides.

Yes, the PA profession does have some great things going for it. Of course, every profession has it's strengths and weaknesses.

Greetings! I am not sure if this thread is still being monitored, but i have a question that i didn't hear was covered, and that is licensing. What happens to the provider's practicing license when becoming an MSL? Does the role cover enough education or patient interaction to keep your state license and board certification or will a provider have to give that up and work under their highest degree instead? Thank you so kindly in advance for your response.
@TheMedicineCouch23 күн бұрын
When a provider becomes an MSL, they will not need to maintain a current license, unless their company wants them to for some reason. In other words, you won't be practicing medicine when working as an MSL, so your license is irrelevant. If someone chooses to let their license expire, they could still get a license in the future, but they must meet their state requirements for new licensees, which may have a hours stipulation. I think most providers probably find it easier just to keep their license active. In Texas, where I live, you only have to complete the CME required every year. You do not have to work a minimum number of hours per year. Hope this answers your question!
@s.walton46422 күн бұрын
@TheMedicineCouch Thank you so much for your response. Unfortunately, in my state, we don't have full authority so we have to have a collaborative physician plus CME in order to maintain our state license. I prefer not to let my license expire as I worked hard for this. How feasible is it to work as an MSL and have a few hours a month moonlighting to see patients? Some APPs may find that once they break into this role, they have no desire to go back into the redundancy of clinical practice. Thank you in advance for your insight.
@TheMedicineCouch18 күн бұрын
@@s.walton464 I think it could definitely be possible to moonlight, especially if you had a very flexible moonlight opportunity. The biggest challenge is probably scheduling as MSL's travel quite often and I'm not sure how much advance notice you have. If your travel can be scheduled out in advance, then I would think it would be possible to pick up a shift or two per month. The other caveat is that you would have to make sure that the MSL company doesn't have a no moonlighting or conflict of interest policy. Pharmaceutical companies have very strict rules governing them, so there may be something that prohibits this. Also, TX doesn't doesn't have full authority either. I think most states have a way you can maintain your license without having to work or have an active supervising physician on file. I would certainly call, or email) the medical board of your state directly and ask them about this.
