This is helpful- thanks. The bearings seized up on one of the rollers, so I replaced it. It was good to know what the yellow 'cap' is though, as that's what seized up (in a Roomba 980)!

Really appreciate this video; like many others, I never thought to remove the yellow plug at the end of the rollers. You've done your fellow Roomba devotees a solid.

Thanks a ton ! I have an AVR 2700 and replaced the caps but it blew a fuse shortly thereafter , Noticed a blown MOSFET so I replaced both 11N80C3 mosfets for higher rated 17N80C3 type . Works great now !

I fixed my monitor successfully by following your guide. You are my hero!🎉 For others who are going to repair their monitor. The three bigger caps are for the IC supply rail which doesn't not pass 5v. Just use any 100uf cap to replace them. While the small cap is for LDO's input, where the voltage could be 5-12v. I am replacing them with my SMD MLCC cap and they work just fine.

I discovered that one of the cleaning brushes has a steel cylinder that must freely rotate. This cylinder is what the yellow end presses on. If that cylinder can't rotate, then the robot is screwed. I put a pair of pliers on it, got it to rotate and eventually come right off. Sprayed lubricant in there and all is well.

Great video! I think i would remove the power supply board for inspection/ cleaning. Is it possible to place a small heat sink on the transistor to help dissipate heat away from the board? Thats a great idea to loosen the front bezel, then remove the back cover! Thank you 🤓 for my level of repairing electronics I would tend to replace all 4 caps with matching values.
@ri5ux435
@ri5ux435 Жыл бұрын
When you're repairing 40 of them in a row, you're not really concerned about cleaning and inspecting power supplies that are working just fine. A heatsink isn't going to do any good when there's no airflow inside of the monitor. Heat is going to build up just the same, it will just take slightly longer. Not enough time to make a difference. The solution: a fan, even a small one, but who's gonna put a fan in their monitor? Probably nobody.

AVR270 here. It wouldn't boot anymore but would still stay in standby. I went and replaced the two caps with 470 pF 2KV ones. However now the damn thing won't even turn on the power LED. I can hear a faint buzz from the power supply when I plug it in but no other signs of life. What I did differently was removed the top PCB (containing the HDMI ports) in order to get to the far screw on the PSU but I made sure to align the pins and plug the flex cables back in.

any idea as to why my 3700 avr 7.1? volume outputs are low when using HDMI inputs . THis just started so the sound is very low even turned up to its notmal safe operating range. after about 2 min of use with very low volume the AVR shuts down but the orange sleep mode light on front is still lit. iv tried all hdmi inputs as well as sterio and optical it does the same thing. I love my AVR any help would be great mine is a 2012 model owned since new it has been a great machine i really hope to get it working again.

How long would one need to leave the device disconnected from power for the capacitors to discharge themselves and become safe to handle?
@ri5ux435
@ri5ux435 Жыл бұрын
Some power supplies can take weeks or months to self dissipate. Some just a few minutes. It's hard to say for sure. I'd use a multimeter to check them for voltage. This is typically why I just carefully remove the power supply and use a resistor to discharge the caps

I have a HK AVR 325 receiver with the same problem, it will power up for a couple of seconds, then back into standby. A murky world of mystery was entered, as I opened it up and looked for anything obvious (bulging caps, fried fuses, smoked resistors, etc.) but everything looked "normal". It's still here, collecting cobwebs, but am always open to suggestions?

First, Good pointer on what to look for. Second, The problem with mine is the bearing itself is bad, and you will find this on third party rollers from Amazon, some are good some are horrible. Just try turning the yellow caps by hand they should literally spin completely freely with no hangups or force required. I popped the caps off and pack them with some lithium grease and they were both fully functional then. Because the Roomba is constantly monitoring the required torque to the debris extractors, it will stop at the slightest increased power requirement from the rollers.

My irobot started having this issue today and there was something stuck at the beginning but then it did it again and we notice there was a lot of hair in the side of the rollers (had no idea that came off) so we thought that was it. Came here looking to find out how to get this monitor apart LOL and stayed for the down to business video with no hype or dumb intro! I'm glad I watched the whole video because as many electronic things as I've seen die from the capacitor plague, I would have gone right for the power supply first! Thank you for the clear and well done video.
