Frontiers 2 Has some HUUUGE shoes to fill

Black Doom is really evil. He tries to nostalgia bait Shadow every chance he gets. Or he really likes Radical Highway.

To “be back” means to consistently deliver high-quality games, game after game. One good game isn’t a comeback. It’s a surprise. A fluke at best. A fluke at worst. If the next two Sonic games maintain good quality and continue to deliver going forward, _then_ “we are so back” applies.

i cackled at the silver chilidog bit before having a coughing fit peak review, but i think you missed a few details with the story - specifically black doom's goal, and why shadow was getting pissed off at that point - but your focus was far more on the gameplay, so i can understand that keep up the good work!

I think The stages created by the Time eater are all about Sonic rather than Shadow. We go throuh Final Rush instead of Final Chase, We end with the Mach Speed section of Kingdom valley that only sonic went through, we went to Suset Hieghts instead of Enemy Territory and we go to Chaos Island during the time Sonic was there.

While the Mic quality is okay, the rest of the review is very solid and pretty good.

4:49 I still don’t understand the hate for this line as it makes sense for Sonic to be shocked that other things than just the Time Stones can send people through time and space. Granted, people also mention the signs also doing that, which is fair. But I guess Sonic just forgot. It really doesn’t matter. (And no, I do not believe Ian Flynn only makes references for the sake of references.) Now to be fair, he does do references that are just meant to be references. Frontiers’ references was both meant to make the lore feel more connected, and Ian trying to see how many references he cram in there. But for the most part, especially reading Archie, he’s just trying to make references for the sake of references as he does try using them to connect the lore. Like a TV show bringing up previous events. (Also me bringing up Ian wasn’t me assuming that’s what this guy meant, I just wanted to bring it up for Ian’s haters)

I actually massively enjoyed Sonic Frontiers. The whole package. I played each Cyberspace stages dozens of times over. I loved it. Shadow Generations plays like a dream. It's everything I liked about Frontiers polished to a sheen. I have literally no complaints. Some people say it's too short. I argue it's such high quality because it's on the short side. All killer no filler. Plus if your number one criticism about a game is "I wish there was more of it" you know you've got something good.

18:21 I'm pretty sure the G.U.N Commanders name Abraham Tower was first established in one of the comics, don't ask which one though, I can't remember, so this wouldn't really be the first time we hear his real name, in fact when they called him by his name from the comics in the Dark Beginnings anime, the people I had seen react to it who i'm pretty sure had read the comics were overjoyed

I personally prefer the open zone control of frontiers it’s just way more fun to run around than shadow generations

If they wanted to be Meta Westopolis makes more sense then Radical Highway especially since you have to go through bits of radical highway throughout the game. Not only is Westopolis from the game Black Doom stars in but its also a level that you have to repeat over and over again to get the true ending so it repeating constantly throughout shadow gens could be a nice little reference to how repetitive westopolis could be for someone on a first playthrough of shadow the hedgehog

I'm only somewhat optimistic about the future, because that's what-? 2 games, one with a large scope that only achieved a little beyond mediocrity, and a tiny game that has good/refined gameplay, and a good story? Don't think we're out of Mediocre Zone yet, Sega and Sonic Team have yet to prove they're capable of making a non-nostalgia pandering, quality, original 3D Sonic game. I need to see a game with the scope of Unleashed, or Adventure 1/2 before I can have confidence in them again. I would've said 06, but I don't think Sega will ever give Sonic Team the time, or budget to create a finished product with that game's scope.

I love this game it’s really awesome and as a huge fan of shadow the hedgehog fan this game gave me everything I ever wanted which made me so happy in my opinion.

Sonic Frontiers was what restored my hope in the Sonic series but Shadow Generations just cemented it

Shadow Generations makes the claim of Sonic Generations being one of the best Sonic games ever made feel stupid because of how much better it is

Great video! Basically is identical to how I feel myself. I just hope so much Sonic Team and Sega keep up the momentum. Let's not immediately follow this up with yet another underwhelming or even mediocre/divisive game. KEEP UP this energy. The template is here. And also, yes. We really gotta get more originality back, so we can have games that have their own unique identity again too.

I have some answers but they just to lead to more questions. Tao: Each time Tao died she was resurrected straight up by the Great Will/Axiom/God himself (not one of his avatars like the "Creator") to make sure that world would have a chance a renewal via the Mandala System since Yoko sided with Chaos. (Doing this with Tao specifically is heavily implied to be the reason Japan can't resurrect Amaterasu according to a sidequest) Yoko: That thing that she stole while you fought Abidel was her sealed away throne goddess powers that she lost when she was imprisoned originally. Dazi: The changes to Dazi anger me so much, back in his version of Law he just wanted to beat his friend, not kill him and as Mastma later reveals he KNOWS that actual God isn't against the progtag and Tao recreating the world but hes the only difference and thus the nail that could make Dazi go more crazy. Like seriously Dazi could've just joined team Tao and nothing would change but no we have to make him fully evil and kill him off despite that clashing with the Canon of Creation. Mastema: Is apparently able to control Tiamat because as was told to you in a blink and you'll miss it lore dump he can command demons. As for the Law bias, I don't mind at all. Chaos (like in Nocturne's TDE) and especially Neutral normally tends to get the love from Atlus. Like SMT2 is the only other game where Law has a focus and that is with the caveat that it spends most of the time fighting itself.

Opinion: Story wise, I think I liked the OG P3 to either FES or P3P. The reason is [spoilers ahead] you could prevent the deaths of key characters in the later two, and that takes away from the theme of P3. Death and acceptance. Those characters dying is meant to be the tragic trigger to help build who other characters become as well as carry on the theme of death throughout the game. But now those triggers happen even if they don't die, so I guess death isn't that important to a story about how death effects people anymore. GG.
