I agree on the 1-2/2-1. 2nd is still like 40% shorter than almost every 4 speed you'd find in a truck 20 years ago, *and* it's got a 4.27 final drive to boot, so imo I'd prefer the truck almost never use first unless it's from like a dead stop, currently it's a bit too happy to drop into 1st which is honestly too short for most stuff, the drastic ratio difference likely also playing a part in the jerkiness
@flaberdoopinКүн бұрын
i didn't know the ratios but i agree with everything else. on the street, i think the transmission is great and shift from 1-2 isn't terrible but offroad in 4L it can be rough!
@wolfgang_h3tКүн бұрын
@flaberdoopin It shouldn't be doing a 1-2 shift at all in 4L, it defaults to 2 and only should go into 1 if you manually put it there 🤔
@flaberdoopinКүн бұрын
Your truck defaults to 2nd? Mine always starts in 1st gear.

@@flaberdoopin All RRs default to 2nd in low from my understanding. Maybe the tune changed that
@flaberdoopin21 сағат бұрын
That is first heard for me. I have been using 4L since the first month and it has always started in 1st and it has always been a jolt into second. And that is in auto trans, not manual with paddle shifters. I have heard others say the same about theirs as well. When crawling up rocks I don’t think second would do it because at 1-4 mph you are at 1500-4500 rpm which is perfect for obstacles

will never understand why Ford would think plastic is better than the aluminum oil pan? Even the transmission pan is plastic???
@flaberdoopin2 күн бұрын
I am with you but it isn’t just ford, a lot of manufacturers are using plastic now. May have something to do with ease of molding so they can add baffles into it for better oil pick up at odd angles and forces
@tonys1006Күн бұрын
@@flaberdoopin i'm curious to see how well they hold up to the heat of hot oil and trans temps over the years. We all know plastic and high temps don't like each other. I'm sure they will get brittle and start cracking in a few years.

From what i have read, VW, Mercedes, BMW and a hand full of other manufacturers have been using plastic oil pans for a while now. They are a composite plastic, not just standard crap that water bottles and buckets are made from. While i do like the durability of metal, i haven't actually heard anyone say that their plastic oil pan has failed and from the research i have done, they are actually capable of pretty high temps... i guess time will tell.

Probably not what you want to hear after buying a drone but the new Air 3S has foward facing lidar for obstacle avoidance so it can see bare branches, twigs, powerlines etc. First DJI drone to feature that. All the others (I have Inspire 2, Mavic 3 Pro, M300) will always struggle with bare branches like you hit or anything else thin. It's a shame you can't set the minimum altitude lower when using the Active Track, to get it to follow under the overhangs. Still waiting here in little old New Zealand for any news if the tune will be sold outside USA 🙏
@flaberdoopin3 күн бұрын
That's great info to have. I did look at the Air 3S as well but it was a bit more expensive and in the US, it looks like since it is over 250g it requires registration and or some sort of license to operate. I dont know how much of a big deal that is but i dont want to get hemmed up flying it without the proper documentation. I am still considering a bigger, better and more capable drone but i wanted to start with something small and relatively cheap because i figured i was going to crash it a few times one way or another and didn't want to crash a $1000+ drone and break it. Now that i have seen some of the footage i can get and once i get a little better at shooting arial shots i will most likely move up to something with a better camera and better obstical avoidance. the Mavic Pro 3 looks pretty amazing. what are your thoughts on that drone?
@arghone3 күн бұрын
@flaberdoopin I like your logic 👍 I'm not up to speed on the US regs, thankfully we don't have any weight restrictions here under 15kg/33lbs. Mavic 4 will be launching sometime around February, will be interesting to see what that brings to the table. Most notable upgrade between the Air / Mini and and full size Mavics is the camera quality but if I'm honest, for youtube, those smaller ones are fine unless you are pushing the dynamics range in low light or super contrasted scenes. Mavic 3 prices will plummet when the 4 is announced, so maybe grab a 3 Pro / Cine on sale if you want the jump in camera quality.

dude, this truck is awesome all around. even if you aren't going to take it off road, it is still badass and it will turn heads. I would own this even if there were no trails anywhere around. That said, if you ever do get a chance to take it out on a beach or into some mud, DO IT! If you are use to sports cars and that is what you are looking to replace, this may not be the best move, the explorer ST would be more up that alley but it isn't a unique. This is a really long and round about way of saying YES, i totally think this truck is worth it even if you never take it off the pavement. I know plenty of people who have had TRD Pro's or lifted 4X4's that never saw dirt... it's all about what you like... it's still a truck and super useful for that... and if you get hit with a hurricane you can still get out and buy more beer for your storm party while everyone else is stuck at home! (I had BMW M3 and a super sweet Geo Metro that were completely worthless during a serious hurricane in Pensacola back in 2004, but my little S-10 4X4 was fine to get around on all of the flooded roads)

I would be at 16-18 psi at the highest on that type of terrain. You can literally drive at 90 mph with 24 psi in the tire in a empty Ranger with no drama. When doing serious rock crawling I would be no higher than 12 psi. The bigger the tire the less air you need. The lighter the vehicle the less air you need. Once in low range you're not going fast enough to build heat in the tire carcass so you need much air pressure. Higher speeds and higher vehicle weights need higher pressures.

I generally stop and fill up whenever low fuel warning comes on, so far twice I have been out on the interstate in a rule part of state and no premium was available, at least 2 of those 8 tanks were 87, honestly could not honestly tell any difference at all. At least I could not tell the difference from the seat of the pants. I don’t drive mine like grandpa either, driving this little truck hard and fast, is so much fun it’s very addictive. @carownervirus443810 күн бұрын
For Ford to void the warranty it would have to be the tunes fault and somehow installed incorrectly. Magnuson Moss Warranty Act protects the consumer from situations like this is my understanding. Given the install took me 10 min or less at home it seems like a mere money grab from Ford to push you to a dealer. They also provide instructions in the box so if this was truly mechanic/ASE only it would be provided through an internal employee/ase portal one would think. The fact that someone got charged $800 makes me want to offer on the forums to guide people on how to do it as it is truly as easy as flashing BM3 maybe easier in some regards
@flaberdoopin10 күн бұрын
It will depend a lot on the dealer you go to I think. If they can prove that a malfunction was a result of the tune and you go thru ford performance for the warranty they may turn you away because they clearly state that it has to be installed by a certified mechanic. I’m not saying you are wrong but I see them pushing back and some people won’t want to take that risk.

Thanks Matt. You have the best Ranger Raptor videos on KZbin. I'm hoping you don't run out of stuff to post videos of since everything has been very helpful! 😉

Thanks so much for the comment! I still have a lot of ideas but have a hard time finding the time to edit. I have a few in the works :) cheers

Mr. Flaberdoopin, you Rock! I found one on Amazon, sadly it will take 13-25 days from now. But I'm not in a hurry. Thanks for all of the information you have provided through your videos, I purchased a 2024 Ranger Lariat in August, and you have provided so many ideas and other information that has really helped me with my Ranger. I think we all appreciate what you have done for us!

Wow, thanks so much for taking the time to leave this comment, it truly means the world to me! It gets hard to make these videos sometimes (slows down all of my projects with filming and trying to show everything) but comments like this keep me motivated! Cheers!

Can you share the amazon link?

I didn’t buy on Amazon and I don’t see an exact fit replacement on Amazon but the f-150 one looks pretty similar

Did you get it repair? I just noticed this same exact sound on my rangerraptor 😢
@flaberdoopin13 күн бұрын
I haven’t taken it in yet. It still runs great and I’m thinking it is just lifter noise. I’ll have the dealership techs look at it at next oil change

Thats a Volkswagen Part. P/N F5G1858309 for all next-gen global Rangers. I ordered mine online from a VW Parts catalog,

I didn’t realize that. Thanks for the info

Do you have a part nr? Thank you

I found the exact part on the ford website… you can use this to help search for a less expensive version from a 3rd party if you done want to order from Sig Lux in AUS. ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-glove-box-support-hc3z5806200b?origin=pla

Thanks for sharing with a great video. Such a shame that ford cheaped out on so many things on the "Falgship" Ranger Raptor. Even the glove box is cheap and flimsy, a friend of mine flocked the inside just because he was fed with the scratchy sound stored items made.
@flaberdoopin13 күн бұрын
That’s a great idea. I may have to look into doing that too! Cheers

Have you done anything to light the glove box or other storage box above it yet?
@flaberdoopin13 күн бұрын
No I haven’t but that is a fantastic idea and now I’ll have to think about it and how I can make that happen. Thanks for the idea!

@ No prob. I just can’t imagine why it doesn’t come with interior box lights in the first place.

Can you drop a link for the product please?

this is the one i am using in the video but it is an Australian company and i had them throw it in with my fog light order so it's wasn't any more for shipping... www.signaturelux.com.au/products/glove-box-soft-close-damper-for-ford-next-generation-model. If you are looking for one local in US, there are a lot of options, cant speak to the quality of them but i have read reviews that they are fine... if you google Ford Ranger Glove box damper you might be able to find some local that wont have to ship from Aus, but if you are looking for anything like 3D decals, or fog lights, Signature lux has that and you could get one of these from them as well. Sorry for the long response to a simple question but i dont want you thinking you have to pay Aus shipping for this plastic part!

Appreciate your help my man, ordered mine along with the fog lights as well 😊

Thanks, did you guys order white or yellow fog lights? I have ambers on the a-pillars so not sure which one would be better.

Hey man good video. Few questions about that trail. I couldn’t find any info on it online, so where is it? Could you give me an address? Thanks.
@flaberdoopin14 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. If you search "quaker run road, VA" in google maps you will find the road that leads into "rapidan vly rd" / "rapidan rd". That is the fire road / trail. hopefully that helps you find it. I'm going to be heading out there this weekend so maybe i'll see you there! I may also hit up Peters Mill Run again
@adampinsky389614 күн бұрын
Thank you it looks like I found it. I’ve heard of Peter’s mill run but I don’t know if I have the capability for it. I have a Nissan Frontier, it’s a 4x4 but not the off road model. Thanks again!

I saw a Rivian truck out on peters mill but i would have been worried about ground clearance on that... there are a lot of rocks that stick up 8-10 inches in the middle of the trail that you could poke or hit some of your udnercarriage on out there so probably best to avoid that trail. Another great trail (very pretty and accessible) is Cub Run. i really like that one as well. Cheers and have fun out there.
@adampinsky389614 күн бұрын
Ok thank you. Cub run does look fun so I might hit that up.

I want to get the bac x4s? Do you recommend it? Thank you.
@flaberdoopin16 күн бұрын
That is a great looking cover for sure. Low profile and keeps visibility out of the back window when rolled up. I would consider the one with the t slits for additional rack mounting options. It isn’t as strong as I would have liked and very easy to get open with a coat hanger so don’t use it to keep tools and other valuables ‘safe’
@OldWorldHandyman16 күн бұрын
@ that’s a good idea with the t slots. Thank you, appreciate it. Love the mods you did.
