Good idea imo. 30kmph 18mph in France. Sure its hard to drive that slow in a rush but really does you no harm at all. Auto speed restriction on cars is ibv the answer. Maybe voluntary for cheeper insurance

Directly outside of schools & hospitals 20mph is fine & makes sense, but the rest of the time the speed limit should be 30. In my area I can actively see peoples brains switch off on 20mph zones & start messing around with their phones or something. In addition ebikes / scooters & pushbikes easily can do over 20mph & dont pay attention to speed limits so these areas end up being more prone to accidents.

Yes its annoying to see hoggers who arent doing speed limit and are being undertaken but theres that much traffic on the motorways these days whats even more annoying are people who stick to this rule and keep bobbing in and out. The rules should change. Lane 1 40 - 50mph, lane 2 50 - 60mph, lane 3 60 - 70mph.

So if a council set a speed limit and I get stopped for going over it should then be a civil matter not a criminal offence

I think that 20mph is appropriate for some places (near schools or places with high pedestrian footfall) - BUT; when it's 20mph in most urban settings then we get desensitized to the speed limit and become more likely to break the speed limit more frequently.
