My tree in NZ has produced an abundant amount of berries. Having only just discovered they are edible after having this plant in my garden for 30years, I harvested my first lot the other day, cooked them slowly down, added a dash of vanilla essence and a small amount of honey. The raw berries are tart rather than bitter but the finished product I liken to blackcurrant jam and have had it on icecream and butter on toast. Delicious - next up, I will pick more and freeze for some wine making.

In my experience those plums where not ripe, they turn red and get softer. Im flavoring a mead with them, so i washed and smashed them to remove pits, by hand :(

How old do they have to be before they start generating their own body heat? They obviously aren't on day 3 here.

so cute, we used to have swallows nesting on my parents farm, there are hardly any swallows left now here because all the farm house n stable areas nowadays are "cleaned" up and the parent swallows can no longer find enough barn flies and insects to feed ...

One time I got a picture of a barn swallow feeding a baby in mid-air

Thanks a lot. A barn swallow nest in our garage fell down. I put it together and placed it on a shelf. The parents seemed lost and the little ones hunkered down and were quiet. Then I didn't see the parents for a while, so I tried to feed the fledglins, but they were too stressed out and just huddled together with their heads hidden. So I tried a trick. I played your video and at about 2:05, like magic, their little gaping mouths stuck out. I have no problem feeding them. Play your video and have a fly, or a horsefly, etc. and feed. No stress, they don't mind me and my finger. Wonderful. I get tears in my eyes seeing them react to your bird.

Some birds lay their eggs in other birds’ nests and bounce. Do you think it was one of those?

So... At least 2 eggs laid on May 29th, but they didn't hatch until June 20th? That's over 3 weeks! Even chicken eggs hatch by day 21, which as we know by the much larger and heavier eggs, baby chickens hatch not mostly bald like barn swallows but feathered, make plenty of loud noises, have their eyes open, and can already walk, run, eat & drink on their own. Everything I've read about barn swallows is that their eggs take 13 to 17 days to hatch. I wonder why yours took so long?
@byunghwara3 жыл бұрын
They don't hatch all at once. I think he waited till the 3rd one hatched and called it Day 1.

Thank you for posting these! I never knew these birds existed until I moved into a new apartment and have a pair raising their family on my balcony. We’ve been cohabitating very well. I’m so nervous you’d think I was the one that laid eggs. The babies are 15 days old. Guess they’ll start fledging next week!
