Have you ever seen Lamborghini’s authorized CF repairs? I saw a crunched door sill repair, and if I recall correctly, it was orange (in color). It didn’t matter what color the car was, the repair was done to Lamborghini specs and had to be done with their process and product. Nice little repair!

Are you sure that some modules didn’t turn off? My golf once the meter is connected shows 0.6a if you wait for 5 mins it drops to 0.03a on its own. I can’t work it out. That is certainly a possibility, there are some modules that turn on with power then they go to sleep after 5 minutes. Tracing which ones are on which circuit is part of the diagnostic fun.

Thank you! Fortunately my friends and family in the LA area so far are safe, but there are over 5000 families that have lost their homes and places of business, so it is a terrible disaster. Down here in San Diego, my family lives in an extreme fire danger area, and we've been informed that tomorrow our power will be turned off to prevent possible wildfires due to power lines getting downed by high winds. In the past twenty years we've been evacuated due to fires quite a few times, and have twice seen fire across the street from our house as we were bugging out. When it happens, it happens fast. Appreciate your prayers for all of us out here.

That significant power loss concerns me. And yes, that is preposterous that the Toyota dealer could not find the problem. First, I'd be checking the MAF to make sure it's in spec and its wiring is working. Second, I'd be smoke checking for significant vacuum leaks. Third, I'd be doing an engine compression test on all cylinders, and looking at all the spark plugs for evidence of fueling issues. Fourth, I'd be looking at the fuel pressure, fuel filter, wiring to the injectors, and cleaning the injectors themselves. Lack of power can be due to mechanical issues (blown piston rings, burned valves) or bad mixture due to lack of fuel or excess of air.

I adored the original DG short shifters, before they went to the current Sigma series that are in my opinion, way too overly complicated, and much too hard to adjust compared to how quickly a factory style shifter cable adjustment works.

14:52 Ignition timing advance.... Is that torsion value for timing?... If so thats worth buying it, as thats a VCDS feature that most diagnostic tools don't have at this price. its used when you advance or retard the belt with the 3 bolts on the cam. Or is it something completely different? If it is your advancement is quite high 7.5 degrees is usually out of range. Its usually -5 to +5 but should be as close to 0 as poss. 0.5 ish? your belt may be slack or maybe if its petrol not a tdi this is not the same thing and that fine. Having a torsion value reading on a device this cheap would be a big win for someone with a PD TDI these are the groups in VCDS Group 004: Unit Injector 795 /min Engine Speed (G28) 5.0 °ATDC Injection Start (specified) 3.7°KW Injection Duration (specified) 1.49° Torsion Value That value could be ATDC(At Top Dead Center) injection start. Or Torsion Value its more likely the former which isnt what is needed for PD timing
@CliffjumperCars18 күн бұрын
There's a big difference between static timing, set mechanically on older cars, and electronically adjustable timing, achieved through modern ignitions. On a vehicle with a distributor like the the Corrado VR6, the electronic adjustability is limited by the hall sender's size. IIRC the limit is something like +/- 15*. On a car with full electronic ignition with coilpacks the limit can be even wider, not that it would be helpful unless you're doing some really aggressive tuning. But the timing will vary depending on the tuning and running conditions. On the 1.8t, when the knock sensor detects detonation, or when the IC temp sensor indicates heat soak, the ECU retards timing and boost significantly to make sure the motor doesn't have a meltdown. 7.5* of timing advance at idle without load, under vacuum is pretty normal. You'll see the timing advance and retard with different throttle positions, manifold vacuum or pressure levels.

I started with the original CF intake elbows and they were nothing but problems and didn't have the necessary ports for all of the plumbing. Do yourself a favor and replace them. If you search for E36 silicone intake elbows you'll find a 3" and 3.5" version each with two ports. One will fit the charger inlet and the other will fit the throttle body inlet with some trimming, and you'll be able to plumb the ICV, diverter valve, and crankcase vent from the existing ports. The supercharger outlet elbow is just a bending (90°) reducer (3"-2.5" iirc).

I have this tool and it told me that my cranking voltage is low on a brand new battery. Needless to say I went back to the store that sold it to me and they tested it with their $10K tool and all came back good. The cranking low cannot be trusted but it can test your battery very accurately
@CliffjumperCars29 күн бұрын
If it's testing "cranking low" on a new battery, that would be a good indicator that there may be an internal corrosion issue with either the negative ground cable to the block, or the positive cable from the battery to the starter. That will result in increased impedance, which will show as low cranking amps. Worth checking into.
@Tonyplat9829 күн бұрын
@@CliffjumperCars Oh I did believe me. I stripped down everything down to the starter connector cleaned all connections and it was still showing low cranking. At that point I thought maybe something went wrong with the starter but nope none of that was the case. It turns out my V6 engine starter just draws that much current and it's normal for the low cranking voltage to dip down into the 8V range. That's just how my car starter works. That's why these cheap tools cannot reliably be trusted. It is still a very useful tool to have though don't get me wrong i'm not hating on the tool it's just not as reliable as some of the more expensive tools that big stores use like autozone. They tested the low cranking and it passed that test without any issue.

Wow, quite the dynamic video indeed, I would love to hear how this held up. Did you take it for a nice 1 Hour drive or so? My guess is the reason that it popped off to begin with is because the weight of the motor moving forward and backward while driving and it popped it out of its casing, but now with that all fixed it should move around freely with no issue.🏆🏁🌅
@CliffjumperCars29 күн бұрын
With the solid BFI motormounts, there's not much engine movement, but still enough vibration for it to wiggle itself out, which was an inconsistent issue. Happened enough at inopportune moments to be annoying. Incidentally, every time you fix one problem in a complex system, it will reveal the next weakest link in the system, and not to be a spoiler, there's another video coming shortly where I found another point of failure.

Great! I've been keeping tire inflators in my vehicles since I got my R32 in 2004, which came with one from the factory... I thought that was a great idea for all the cars in the fleet. With the big heavy beast that is our Sequoia, the times we've had tire issues have usually not been catastrophic failure but a slow leak, so I also keep a tire repair kit in the emergency kit for it.

I'm still perfecting the technique, both for trimming to the ideal length, splitting it, and even which adhesive works best over the long haul. I have not used JB Weld, but I'm tempted to try that or another epoxy for best longevity. I've used RTV silicon and it seems to hold up decently for about a year or so of normal use, but even a year is not a permanent solution.

I've done similarly in the past, but I've also noticed that heat from the radiator kills the adhesive over time and one day that foam is simply no longer there.
@georgemurphy901Ай бұрын
I live in UK and SPOONFEDTUNING will not ship here, I have a suspicion why that is, but anyway, I used 20mm standard round open wiring rubber grommets, shaved one side (which will be the upper facing side, otherwise the grommet profile is too high and the Grille is compressed too much) by sliding it onto a round wooden rod , make sure its straight, then use a very sharp blade slice off the grommet top by 1mm, and they fit the aperture fine, as when pushed in they adjust to the oval shape, and are a lot cheaper.
@CliffjumperCarsАй бұрын
Very industrious approach! Always appreciate when folks come up with solid workarounds and home fabrication.

I was shocked that after they sent me CAD-CAM diagrams of the measurements they needed, and I sent them back said measurements after taking them with a micrometer, that the "new retooled" part had the exact same incorrect dimensions as the original version. If they're making them in house, then the person doing the tooling paid absolutely no attention to the revised measurements. If they subbed the work out, whoever did it just ran with the original design and didn't revise it at all. Disappointing to say the least. Enter James at SFT: Right, these folks can't seem to get it right, so I'll do it myself. Thanks James.

I wonder if you are going for top speed in it if it holds boost. Got the same issue but it is noticeable after 120 mph not that I am driving like that every day but still...😂
@CliffjumperCarsАй бұрын
The interesting thing about how boost & timing works in the 1.8t (at least with a factory ECU controlling boost, even if you have an aftermarket tune) is that it is both rpm and temperature dependent. It will spike to max boost briefly at a lower rpm, the drop off to its nominal boost level, then perhaps climb or lower slightly depending on how the intercooler temps are doing. If it's cold out and your IC doesn't get heat soaked, you may see close to top boost across the whole rpm spectrum. If it's warmer out and your IC does get too toasty, the ECU will trigger the N75 valve to bleed off boost, and the ECU will also pull timing. In our case I've noticed that max boost is about 25psi, nominal is around 22psi, and if it's warm out we'll only see 15psi. If the IC heatsoaks, it pulls the boost all the way back to 7psi.
@DumitrescuG.Cristian-sb3lpАй бұрын
@CliffjumperCars Thanks for the reply. It has a stage 1 tune, done properly I would say. And it makes the same as in your case, goes to 20 psi, levels to 15 drops below and goes back to 15 intermittently. But I am going to cancel some vacuum lines, and SAE is already gone. I am also pretty sure that I may have a leak. N75 valve I will change anyway because it doesn't cost a fortune.

Alternator was checked "good" at the store. Is there maybe a signal wire on the regulator that sends a "OK" or "FAIL" signal to the CPU that I can put a scope on, or does the CPU monitor the regulator output as an analog voltage?
@CliffjumperCars2 ай бұрын
I've heard the Mk5's have the same issue as the Mk3 and Mk4 with the battery ground cable and alternator positive cable getting internal corrosion and introducing excessive impedance to the system, resulting in decreased voltage and amperage. I'd check those for resistance as a first step. Beyond that it's a CANBUS electrical system, so it's quite possible diminished voltage is tripping faults in the ECU or other control modules.

His car was towed to the dealer and it's getting a new engine.
