Lyle is/was one of the utterly most underrated jazz musicians ever!! His writing and playing both! I’m ashamed of the Jazz media! The fact that he quit playing bc of the biz is the ultimate slap in the face for any upcoming musicians…good luck everyone!

I’m more convinced these two are aliens. Both solos were profound and it’s prob the best I’ve heard from both which spans 25 years of listening. At 24 years or so old!!!

Discovered today! ❤❤❤My god I know why I love Lyle. On this solo he is far above Keith Jarrett / much more agreable and inventive.

Nobody applauded after Lyle's incredible solo?!?! WTF?

That’s because Pat came in unexpectedly fast and ripping. People probably just stopped in their tracks…it happens.

I saw these guys in Denton, maybe '79, what a show; afterwards they jammed a bunch of Beach Boys tunes! The cats at NTSU were mesmerized. It was Lyle's homecoming.

This is my favorite group of recordings in Pat Metheny group’s repertoire. I’ve traveled on business for years and this is my favorite (all of Still Life Talking) to listen to on the road.

Amazing these guys just threw this in as a nod to what critics at the time might call "real jazz" - i.e. the kind of jazz these guys weren't playing, and by inference "couldn't" play. I saw the group do this a year or two before this in Providence RI, and though I was utterly blown away by all their originals, when they did this it convinced the "jazzer" in me that these guys were the real deal, even beyond. A lifetime of inspiration for me.

Perhaps, the best composition of the Pat Metheny Group. It's gorgeous! 36 or 37 years after the album's release, it still makes my hair stand on end.
