im in my first year teaching and im at a school where the expectation is teaching curriculum to a t like you were talking about. its literally a script. and its exactly what you said! i feel so undervalued because you can hire anybody to read a script. i dont get to be creative planning lessons. but im realizing i just need to shut my door and what the kids need. so thats how i found your video - looking for ideas to utilize my iready data. thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!

I've taught everything in the past including teaching toddlers thru the tenth graders I even taught finearts and Spanish in the past.

But currently I am a retired teacher

Saxon phonics program doesn't come with a teacher's edition

Have you considered teaching Saxon phonics program it's really basic and teaches the skills they need to pass to first grade

I agree with you on so many levels. Teaching has to be your calling. You have to LOVE kids and love teaching. How are the secret stories working for you? I use them as an interventionist and am planning to use them in the general education classroom with my 1st graders next year.

Overall, really enjoyed this video! I really really want to be a teacher; since I was little. Todays world does discourage me due to the many reasons like pay to workload ratio, bad kids, bad parents, no support, ect. You mentioned that teachers are passionate and love it but want to quit; this kind of still keeps me between a rock and a hard place but I really really don’t see myself doing anything else. I just want to make the right decision. I feel confident in being able to be okay with the hard and my aspects to life is balance so I feel that I can make it work. But again, I just want to make the right choice

How do you deal with the constraints of the curriculum? I'm considering teaching but I've seen in high school how the common core can constrict creative learning.

This content was so on time for me. I’m thinking about becoming a teacher. It’s something that I wanted to do years ago and I chose a different career field instead. However, I’ve been substitute teaching and the thought of becoming a teacher has been weighing heavy on my mind. I enjoy subbing and can actually see myself being a teacher.
