We went back in person after break but we actually shut down and went virtual right before break 🙃🙃

Happy New Year! Do you teach only ELA to both groups? If so, how many hours a week do you teach reading, writing, etc.? For example, I teach ELA, Science, and Math to my AM and PM groups. Each week, I teach 1 hour of Science, 3 hours of Math, and 4 hours of ELA (phonics, reading, writing). My ELA blocks are so packed, so I'm wondering how yours are planned for each week.

Happy New Year! Yes I teach ELA to both groups everyday. I have my homeroom for 2 and 1/2 hours and I have my 2nd block for 2 hours. I try to divide my time into sections: 25 minutes of reading comprehension, 10-15 mins of phonics, 30 mins of writing, about an hour of small group centers.

@@GinaeMaul About every 6 weeks or so, we switch the groups from AM to PM and PM to AM. Do you ever switch your homeroom and 2nd block kids to somehow even out the time difference? The difference between my two groups is about 15 min vs your 30 min. I've had to eliminate my calendar time because there's not enough time to teach 3 disciplines in the short time we have. So, your co-teacher teaches all the other subjects?

@@janinechansons Yes, technically I teach ELA and social studies. Social studies is ingrained in ELA content, I try to do more social studies focused lessons on Fridays. My partner teacher teaches Math and Science. And yes, last year we switched block schedules on certain days to even out the time differences. I haven't done it this year (I have a new partner teacher). Also, I definitely understand your time management struggles with teaching all that content. I struggle with just my ELA content so I know it's HARD WORK trying to plan and teach multiple CORE subjects.
