Just got a 7ft little cado I'm going to plant next to my palmer mango though I might have to move the mango another 2ft so they're spaced apart a little more. I have a 3ft long auger I use to drill down even further punching holes at the bottom and backfilling those holes with a native soil gritty cactus mix blend to help with the drainage. I also mount all my plantings with tropicals like avocado and mangos being in at least 1ft tall mounds. I'll find out if method works. It's worked so far with my jacaranda and tabebuia trees even after the long cold and rainy winter we just had.

I followed the same paper you did and planted two trees on a mound 8 years ago. I created the mound out of decomposed granite (DG) which avocado trees love. The trees (Lamb Hass and Sir Prize) are about 15 ft tall now and are starting to grow very large. One tree is an A pollinator and the other is a B and initially the trees produced so much fruit that the trees couldn't hold on to them and dropped a lot of them. Then the next year they would not produce any fruit because I believe they got stressed from producing too much the year before. Now they are in this alternate bearing mode where one produces one year and the other produces next year. If I had to do it over again I think I would have planted two A trees or two B trees but not one of each.
@SubtropicalFruitGarden
@SubtropicalFruitGarden 2 жыл бұрын
MrEdwinHardesty, Thank you for watching! I am glad your trees are growing well! Avocado trees of most varieties have a tendency to adopt an alternate bearing cycle. Pre-bloom pruning of trees that are expected to set a heavy crop could reduce the number of fruits that set and break the alternate bearing cycle.
