So how much more can I charge my customers if I become certified? 50%? 75%?
@thetreebusiness21 күн бұрын
Very possibly so, but it isn't simply about charging more for the same service. If you can provide greater value, you can demand higher rates.
@small-town-southern-man357321 күн бұрын

Thanks for the video. I started my tree service business Feb 2023. I do it on the side and am hoping to turn it into a full time business, but am also still testing the waters. I have a bucket truck and dont necessarily plan on climbing, but have considered learning how to. I see myself having 1 to 2 employees working with me and don't necessarily want a huge business. You mentioned tree biology, pruning and safety. Can you recommend some first courses to take in those areas? I am not sure I want to invest the time yet in becoming a certfied arborist until I am positive I will be doing this for a living. I have taken a day long pruning course hosted by the city I live in which has been helpful.
@thetreebusiness29 күн бұрын
Your best resource to start with is still going to be the Arborists' Certification Study Guide, the ANSI Z133, the ANSI A300, and the accompanying Best Management Practices. There are plenty more resources available, many of which are on the website www.TreeBusiness.com under Recommended Books: treebusiness.com/recommended-books-1 There are several other great business and arboriculture books on that list.

Get an arborist certification…bro trust me…it will pay off…climbing and being certified is all I have to separate me from your everyday tree guy and I’m able to take any job regardless of what is required. So man the ISA has courses they put on through their website,that is directly what will be on the test.its like 500 bucks for every course and its an interactive self paced deal…

That seemed pretty scary. Glad it had a happy ending but i gotta ask.... If you know before you climb that youre allergic to anything that stings in trees and could send you to zero BP, why wouldnt you pick a less risk averse career so you can wash your dirty skivvies rather than throwing out your soiled ones whenever you meet a pissed off troop of defenders. Damn that could have been so much worse. God had your back that day to be sure

@thetreebusiness2 ай бұрын
@@protreeservicetally that is not a bad way to do it. We chose this method because it was easy to keep up with. One of the problems with paying for profitability is that it may encourage speed, which could create an unsafe environment or lack detail. Implementing this performance pay this Tuesday. Just one question on the double time pay. We have a hurricane heading our way. Will the double time be from when the storm hits? Or is the double time on there OT pay?
@thetreebusinessАй бұрын
@@protreeservicetally you can do it any way that works for you. The way we do it is that emergency jobs are paid double time, 2X the normal wage. This is not on top of overtime or anything else. I’ve been cutting trees since I was about 9 ….. getting certification is just way tooo expensive…. The test from what I understand is not easy but I’m sure I could ace it … why do I have to spend 10s of thousands to be certified by you when I’ve been cutting over 30 years ?? What makes your word so special that I can’t afford to attempt the test …. It seems to me just some bs scheme to keep money flowing in certain directions…. You sit at a desk and talk about work when I’ve actually done it day in and day out every day.
@thetreebusiness2 ай бұрын
The cost of certification is NOT tens of thousands of dollars. The Study Guide is not required, but it is highly recommended. It is not very expensive at only $98.95 for members or $139.95 for non-members. The application to prove eligibility to take the exam is free. The exam fee is $170 for ISA members or $280 for non-ISA-members. ISA membership is not required, but it is only $135. If you elect to take the computer-based exam, there is an additional fee of $125. You could buy the material and take the exam for around $400. And it will open doors to projects you have previously not had access to. There is no scheme. The video will explain many of the benefits of becoming Certified.
