How long does it take flower to ripe fruit?

I live in Melbourne Australia and am the proud owner of a flowering banana tree. Waiting five years for this, everyone said "it won't happen" but it did. I don't know if I will get bananas but I've seen it happen before just a few doors down. The bastards almost ripened outside too. Yet they did start to split, they were still ripening inside and were decent. I have a lemon tree right underneath, so how's that for our crazy weather?
