I wish you the absolute best, this is my story except I only did MHS and not a postbac. I considered switching, but deep down I knew it was not what I wanted. I am now going to really focus on getting a higher MCAT score and this will be my 3rd time. This time I won't just focus on content review, I will be doing mostly practice questions using UWORLD and AAMC resources. Good luck, you got this!!

I agree with another viewer pick a place to study in your home. Work there and eat lunch at this spot. Then at 4:00 end your day go walk take a break drive around the neighborhood. Make sure you get some Fresh Air. Brelynn you have inspired me to go to the Gym so I get up at 6:00. Bye ! You will figure out what works Best For YOU.

Your application outside of your MCAT and maybe GPA seems to be Excellent. It's probably just what you think it is. When I retook the PCAT(Pharmacy School entrance exam) the 2nd time and really focused on the core sections (Science and Math) my score went up. I applied to 7 schools, got 5 interviews and accepted into 4, merely just from improving my score. Standardized tests can sometimes feel like they are designed to keep us out of these opportunities, but once in, we tend to thrive beyond measure. They can also be a measure of if an applicant will make it through a particular program, hence why different programs have different score requirements. A denial can also simple mean we as an institution don't want this applicant to not be successful in THIS program. Been a Pharmacist for 9 years now and happy I did not let anything set me off my desired career path. Different profession, but ALOT of similarities with the overall application process and mindset when applying. Best of luck!

I think you should utilize the amenities you have in your apartment. For onyx storm I rated it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Like the series is amazing and I don’t usually read fantasy.

Listen… nobody likes Maredith… NOBODY watched to watch her. It’s ALL the other characters we loved. Actually ANY other character was more interesting. And yes, she unfortunately stayed the main character throughout. I do believe the theme song gets better. I think. But, I skipped it every time so 🤷🏾♀️

Brelynn, do you do any sort of active recall with your studying? I find it works way better than writing notes especially for bad test takers. Get a huge whiteboard for your apartment and use that.
@BrelynnHunt4 күн бұрын
I don’t and I don’t have a whiteboard at any of my study spaces. Would I just write out everything I know about a topic without looking at notes? Then compare? I usually do Anki after studying a topic, is that active recall?
@lookathibsss4 күн бұрын
@ exactly ❤️ It’s like doing a check of all your knowledge without looking at notes. You repeat the process until you can write down all the relevant information without referring to your notes. It could be fun to use with your anki. You could also do this simply talking out loud to yourself

Okay so constantly taking time to figure out your study location can very easily become a procrastination tactic :) (which I do all the time when I’m actively trying to avoid studying). Try to plan out exactly where you’ll be during your days during your Sunday reset. If you need a change in location every 4 hours, plan for that and know exactly where you’ll be so you don’t eat up your time with figuring things out and experience decision fatigue. List out all your study locations and mix it up week to week. But always make sure that they’re not the same places for pleasure (i.e., the kitchen, the living room, the glam room).

In order to be productive, I need to step out of my comfort zone. When working remotely, I designate a specific area in my home to work, and I stay in that space from the moment I start my day until I finish. I take my lunch in that space as well, just as I would in an office setting, which helps me stay focused and productive. However, if I try to study or work in a space that is too comfortable, I often find myself being unproductive, as I end up getting nothing done. I’m an army brat so yes, it is true. We do more before 9 o’clock and most people do all day. I’m my most productive early in the morning around one or two. I’m moving to the point knowing that the end is near. That gives me satisfaction to know I worked hard through the morning hours and now I’ve had lunch and now it’s to the end of the day we come.

I love the idea of working from home but since your apartment has the amenities that you’re essentially paying to utilize, do your best to make the most of them. Also, it cuts down on transportation and transitioning from one location to another.

Random but years ago there were straight A pre med & medical students on social media that completely transitioned out of the field to become content creators & business owners. One quote one of my professors always used was that you don't have to memorize what you already know. Some people are good at it which is why they continue forward but perform poorly or are mediocre in their field. These types also lack any personality & are often socially inept. Active learning, learning to understand, is the key & more important than the capacity to memorize 1200 answers that will always be accessible through a textbook or a web search anyway.

I'm just here to offer encouragement like everyone else. I have 6 gap years, 3 MCAT attempts, and 1 master's program, and now I'm a third-year medical student, by the special GRACE of God. The best advice I can give you when it comes to applying to medical school is: "Sometimes we have to let go of the life we planned in order to accept the life that is waiting for us." That doesn't mean it won't happen, but it might not look like what we thought it would look, but in the end, God will get the glory out of the story. I wish you the best on your journey!

Have you looked into Podiatry as a medical specialty? It is 4 years of Medical School. 2-3 years of Residency and you graduate as a Foot and Ankle Surgeon. I myself was in your shoes in wanting to become an MD or DO. And once I discovered podiatry and how diverse and flexible the field is I fell in love. I am currently finishing my second year in medical school and struggled so much with the MCAT, didn’t get a competitive score whatsoever but I applied to podiatry school and they gave me a chance. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. You are in my prayers. Good-luck sis ❤ I am rooting for you.

Thanks for your videos every week and your podcast. You have shown me that I am not alone in my journey even though ours is little different I am trying be a future pediatric nurse. I am so closer I can almost see it, but I’m scared to take the nclex exam. I dreamt I was working with babies and children one day. When I was deciding on what type of nurse I wanted to become. Hoping and praying we both fulfill our dreams. Two black educated woman who are beautiful and have brains will one day overcome this battle.

I been watching for you for some time especially as I was going through my journey. I am black M1 first gen, non traditional student x4-5 years gap years. I took the MCAT once but studied twice for it. First, there is no KEY, PERFECT program. The real gem to MCAT is practice questions. Do tons of it, Uworld and 3rd practice exams(Altius I used these, etc). Try not to be sad when the score isn't what you expected, use them as a way to learn. Next gem for me personally is Anki, even now in medical school but not everyone fancies it. You need to find some way to keep the info repeating in your brain. When you've done maybe 10 practice exams, move to AAMC practice test. those really gauge your score, if you like what you see go take the exam, BUTTTT if its not where you want DONT TAKE THE EXAM. you are only hurting yourself, those exams are true predictors. Last gem, take care of yourself exercise, go walk out for fresh breath of air. When your applying don;t stay fixated on one school/city, I'm from Miami and all I thought about was staying in Miami. Also with SCOTUS being a real thing apply broadly. Now, I'm in Ohio, a state I'd never expected myself to be calculating how in the world to get out for residency and back to a big city. Good luck!!
