Pourriez-vous nous expliquer le gérondif passé? Merci.

1). Body part rule no agreement. Louise s’est coupé les cheveux. Reflexive so être. But no agreement because it’s a body part. But if you replace le cheveux (hair) with direct object. Then the pp must agree, ie add s 2) Elle se les est coupés bien trop courts. Agreement needed because of direct object - here the hair = les 5) No agreement with être and reflexive verb when it’s indirect. Les tourists japonaises Se sont parlé. They speak to each other. When you have “to”. To him / her. They speak to (him), no agreement 7). Ma femme a facilement monté Les escaliers. Direct object after the verb so use avoir. But as it’s after, no agreement needed. 8). Elle Les a montés trois fois aujourd’oui. In this example the direct object is before the verb, so agreement needed. Not with elle, but agreement with Les escaliers = les 9). Ce sont les mêmes bottes que nous avons vues à la ville. Agreement because direct object is before the verb. Fem plural. Bottes 10). Nous avons rentrë les vélos dans le garage. Direct object after the verb so need to use avoir. But no agreement. 11). Specific to Se faire, no agreement. Ma soeur s’est fait faire les ongles. Use être.

12). Regardez toutes les fautes que vous avez faites. Here use avoir. But the que construction indicates a direct object and its before the verb faire so agreement needed. I guess regarder is not the key verb it’s faire.

Wonderful! I just enrolled. I took one of your master classes and loved it! I see there is a 90 day access which is so helpful, allowing me to go back and re-watch. Jennifer’s KZbin videos are great, but what I love about her purchased courses is that they are done in a specific order. As an independent learner, my studies have been haphazard. I also love that they are in English. I fully understand why some teachers speak in French, but in order for me to fully understand the nuances of French grammar, using the English language makes this so much easier. I give Jennifer‘s teaching method and courses a five star review! * In case anyone is wondering, I have not been paid for this review. 😊

A really good topic that I struggle with. I signed up, but the link emailed to me directed me to a guide on pronouns, not on il est vs. c'est. What did I do wrong?

Yay first comment! lol thanks so much for all your content ! (And the Quizlet cards are amazing) I subscribed to the Patreon (the 1st I’ve ever payed for) it’s the least I can do for all the free you give us! (Since I can’t afford your course right now) thanks again!

Thanks, Jessica!! I really, really appreciate your support!! Let me know if you ever have some grammar topic that's giving you trouble, and I'm sure I can put together a lesson about it if I don't already have one 💙

I found translation challenging. This is a really important lesson and worth working on. I did background work to truly understand how to use French adverbs.

Brilliant idea! I love that each translation will help me practice using ALL the things I've been learning, just like I'd need to do in the real world. Love your discussion of different translation options -- I often get stuck when I can't express something the way I want to say it, so I end up not saying anything. As always, your explanations are top notch. Je suis prête !

Wonderful! This translation club is going to be so much fun, and it's really going to be nice to do it for a whole year. Your progress will be EVIDENT after a while, and you'll be able to tell me all about it. That's right, everything will get all mixed up together. Learning grammar topics individually is important when you're first learning the rules, but putting it together the way it is used in everyday speech is the ultimate goad. Moi aussi, je suis prête! See you in the club :-)

I’m so happy you’re pleased with Level 1! We aren’t just skimming over the grammar, are we?!? It’s truly a course to master that level. Great news that you’re planning to continue with Level 2. It’s going to be so good, with 25 new grammar topics to master 🤩

I just would like to say that my university professor linked one of your videos to our online course content to watch. I find your style of teaching excellent. I am English and have learned 4 foreign languages. I am refreshing my French and you explain things very well and also at an understandable tempo. I just watched your 'direct object prounoun' video from 9 years ago and it really helped. I will now check out your other content. Thanks. Also being smiley and friendly helps. 🙂

Thanks so much for your comment! It's nice to receive feedback like this. Interestingly, many people have written to tell me they've discovered my lessons through courses in which their professors have linked my videos. If you're refreshing your French, you sound like an excellent candidate for one of my masterclasses. A new class will be starting in August! Let me know if you're ever looking for a lesson on a particular topic. There's a good chance I've made a video about it :-)
