You want to have fun? Go to the Chester river or Wye Mills in Maryland. Those crabs actually fight you, they’re ten times as active as in Delaware, never could figure out why. They are way bigger and taste better too.

Not many crabs left. I remember I could fill up my cooler in a half hour back in the day. Used to pull up 4 and 5 at a time. Need to give them more breeding room.

Awesome video, but really makes me miss the good old days. My dad got me and my brother hooked on crabbing back when we were 7 yrs old... 1974. We use to go down to Ocean City NJ every summer. Sometimes we went out on a boat and other days we went to this really nice public pier and we always had a blast. Then of course we'd bring our catch back to the rental house where my grandmom and mom would cook them puppies up. Now some years later I'm disabled without a car... but seeing this video makes me think I should try and get a few people together, rent a car and head to somewhere along the Chesapeake and drop some traps and lines. Funny thing is... we've never done it the way ya'll do it with dropping the traps with the floaters. We always would just hunker down in one spot with typically a rented pontoon boat and just drop traps and lines all around it. Really getting the itch! Thanks for the very enjoyable video!

Yessir, that's what we do! Have a snood for necks and bait holder for bunker. Done it for years, we recommend it :) Other people will say its too much bait in one trap

Brandywine river, park at Thompson's bridge. Plenty of shoreline to walk and fish with a dense population of them.

@@FishyAngler best crabbing is for sure in MD, from your boat I recommend Tred Avon and the Chester River around mid to late September. Those crabs are starting to show up now. In Delaware though this time of year you can launch out of Augustine beach outside of Delaware City and should be able to do well

@@DelawareOutdoor thanks. That’s what I already heard that Chesapeake has bigger crabs. I’ll definitely try there, but want to see what’s closer to home.

@@FishyAngler for sure! Best crabs are out of the Chesapeake, especially out of the Chester or Wye river going into late September or October. Not sure what’s closer in Delaware but Augustine beach will produce, recommend having some open top traps with 15-20’ of line, usually use chicken necks and bunker for bait.

I met your dad out on the water (TRED AVON) crabbing last weekend. I recognized his signature old bay hat and when I saw the crab traps in a circle it was a lock. I went over to introduce myself and let him know how much I enjoyed your videos, keep up the good work. Mark

Hey guys this is great. I’m fairly new to the area but my mom has lived in Chestertown for 20 years, sister for longer. What is a mumbo crab? Medium jumbo? I live right along the Chester river, would love to get out there and try my hand at this sometime. I might just throw the back, I love blue crab but I don’t have the means or know-how to steam them.

This is beyond awesome to me. I just saw my first crab in south jersey near the DE yesterday while striper fishing. what stretch of the DE is this? I’ve tried crabbing b4 with no luck maybe it was my homemade trap lol

Not one of these crabs was even close enough to needing to be measured for keeping size, all well over. And not one was a female, you know from the first look if they’re a male or female with their apron and claw color
