When I have seen ‘MrSubaru’ Work on his demos, without an exact measurement, I would just roughly say mid axle. I would roughly guess 8 to 10 inches .

Would a delica be able to carry a Honda CRF300 Rally (approx. 165 kg) on a mount at the rear? I have been looking at van builds for years now but never bit the bullet and lately I am more interested in a van as small as possible but that can carry my motorcycle.
@NomadicVanSunValleyАй бұрын
@tweetdezweet We would replace the stock leadspring pack with one from an H100 to accommodate for the extra weight. In that case, it would hold the bike.

I just found that I had a parasitic draw of 2.5 amps in my L300 with only 130k on it. When I disconnected the 'AMP' box from the battery terminal, the draw stopped, so I am assuming that the original alternator is causing the parasitic draw due to a bad diode or a short. About 15 years ago, I bought a new alternator from Ali Express that is supposed to be rated to give me a higher output (I seem to recall the stock alternator is 45 amps and the aftermarket one is 60 amps). Looks like I am going to now have to tackle the installation of the new alternator. While watching this I also seem to recall that due to having two belts, you have to try and be certain you can replace the belts with 2 there were cut from the same roll so they are identical, else one will slip. I can't imagine that the parts store will be very receptive to a request to get 2 belts from the same roll, sigh... Good tip on draining the oil, I'm thinking it's probably best to drain the whole works and do an oil change at the same time.

Great build, nice work! Why is the exhaust smoke so black?
@NomadicVanSunValleyАй бұрын
@tedc7533 When we filmed this, the van had just returned from Texas, at sea level, where the fuel pump required specific, rich miture settings. When a diesel engine runs rich, it blows black smoke. We tuned it for 6k feet and leaned the mixture before it left. These vans don't have a barometric pressure sender in the intake nor a computer to automatically adjust fueling during variable atmospheric pressures. It must be done manually by an engine tuner or someone with a comprehensive understanding of diesel engines.

Try looking for Good Karrma in Fort Myers, Florida. They sold their inventory to another vendor in the states. They should be able to get you pointed in the right direction.

If I buy my own Delica can I bring it to your shop and have you deck it out like this one? You make some absolute cracked out Delicas in the best way possible
@NomadicVanSunValleyАй бұрын
@AVISA16 Yes we can accommodate your needs for any upgrades you'd like on your Delica. However, when we perform an inspection on Delicas from other importers, we tend to find a large amount of necessary maintenance req'd. That bill typically ranges from 4k USD to upwards of 10k. So, choose wisely.

For the mechanical capability of the van, all of the maintenance completed and it's extensive list of useful items included, you bet someone will see the value here. Maybe you cant see it but someone who's looked at all the overlanding market options that are comparable will know what its really worth. ;)

@NomadicVanSunValley8 ай бұрын
Always keep an eye on engine temps with the l300, but if you boosted it to that level it'll make it run leaner, which with a diesel means LOWER temperatures not higher. So you can do what you did but it won't lead to the power or performance increase you're looking for. Bring it by our shop and we'd be happy to tune it for you. Cheers!
