Thanks for the video, super helpful and way easier to follow along than photos on the forums. My ‘91 just pushed over 400k kms, hopefully I can keep it going a while longer!

Remove driver's seat, first step to doing anything on a L300. Great info, thanks for sharing.

It is really hard to do things around this alternator as it is very tightly packed. Once we had to work on the vehicle for almost half a day. I think this video will help a lot to beginners...!!!

Thanks so much for these videos. I hope to have you guys do some work once I get in over my head with mine. :)

Thanks for the video! Did mine yesterday. For some reason the previous alternator replacement person used a smaller pivot bolt that was super loose and I think caused a lot of tension and alignment issues. Glad to have that finally solved with the proper bolt size. Good time to do your valve cover gasket while you have the seat and everything out.

The pivot point changes from an 6mm diameter bolt to an 8mm diameter bolt sometime between '92 and 93'. The mounting point on the lower front case is known to wallow-out if the nut isn't secure on the pivot point. Make sure you have a lock-washer or some locktite to ensure a solid hold.

I just found that I had a parasitic draw of 2.5 amps in my L300 with only 130k on it. When I disconnected the 'AMP' box from the battery terminal, the draw stopped, so I am assuming that the original alternator is causing the parasitic draw due to a bad diode or a short. About 15 years ago, I bought a new alternator from Ali Express that is supposed to be rated to give me a higher output (I seem to recall the stock alternator is 45 amps and the aftermarket one is 60 amps). Looks like I am going to now have to tackle the installation of the new alternator. While watching this I also seem to recall that due to having two belts, you have to try and be certain you can replace the belts with 2 there were cut from the same roll so they are identical, else one will slip. I can't imagine that the parts store will be very receptive to a request to get 2 belts from the same roll, sigh... Good tip on draining the oil, I'm thinking it's probably best to drain the whole works and do an oil change at the same time.

If you remove the driver's seat, will that make it easier to get to the oil filter when doing an oil change?
@NomadicVanSunValley Жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, No, go from the bottom when doing an oil change.

Do you have a part number for a non-OEM alternator on a 96 L300 Delica you can recommend? Or a place to get a good OEM one? Had mine go out recently and I’m not having much luck finding a good unit to swap out. Any advice would be much appreciated and thank you for the video!

@@NomadicVanSunValley All good and wish I had known about the coupon for parts inquiries sooner! Got everything sorted out with the Alternator since mine broke down on the side of the road 7 months ago but been running fine ever since. Always appreciate the videos and will book a call/coupon for further inquiries!
