Beautiful O/U Roger. Do these bespoke shotguns so finely engraved hold their values, especially when they were made to order with specific gun geometry? Another very informative video.
@rogerrule81954 күн бұрын
The specific gun geometry does not enter into it if the dimensions are in the standard range, which these are on this gun. The condition of course is paramount, but the reputation, or the popularity of the maker is a bigger key to their holding their value. These with signed famous engravers will soon catch on and they are rare themselves.

Thank you, Mr Rule. Perugini-Visini are an amazing ccompany and for a while even Purdey (under Vendome ownership) offered guns made by them! If you endorse a gunmaker, then of course, that gunmaker has the highest stamp of approval too! Speaking of Manrico Torcoli, I remember Christian Ducros, one of France's great independent gunmakers, saying some years ago that he did not like engraving on his guns, but that there was one exception that he would make, and that was for Torcoli. Also, sir, if you have any experience with Roland Baptiste's work, I would request your revview of him. Roland is a personal friend who did the engraving on the first new Rigby Rising Bite double rifle recently, and whose work has been sought by all British, Belgian and Austrian gunmakers. I am possibly also biased in his favor because besides our friendship, I was also the official translator of his book "Manuel de Gravure sur Armes." It is considered one of the finest textbooks of engraving after MArio Abbiatico and Remo Salvinelli's "Grand Incisioni su Armi del Oggi." Thank you again, and apart from your KZbin posts, I sincerely wish that you are featured on a major television channel that talks sporting guns. Your expertise is unmatched and the world deserves to learn more from you. Stay blessed always, sir!

Thank you very much for this very detailed comment. This group of videos I am doing now, 25 through 38, are specific to Italian engravers. Roland Baptiste would be outside of this theme, but I appreciate your input and will look into much of what you have stated. Thanks again.

Aloha Adam, and thank you for your comment. Over the years I noticed German makers of Mauser style rifles prefer Zeiss over the two popular Austrian models: Kahles and Sorovski; although my eyes cannot see any differences. Maybe if I were in the bush for hours and/or days, I would find a difference during early morning light or during the low light at dusk.

Thanks for another fascinating episode, it is great to see how the wonderful Italian craftsmen have interpreted and developed the Boss O/U design. The woodwork on this gun is particularly impressive and the Prince of Wales grip works well aesthetically. In the future would you be willing to create an episode where you show these Italian Boss design guns together with a London made Boss O/U gun?
@rogerrule819524 күн бұрын
Thank you, Adam. I have owned a Boss, went to Boss in London, looked at the huge cut-away graphic of their 1909 over and under. My interpretation is that the Sovereign I showed here is built identically except for the longer forearm iron. The Italian metal is superior to what Boss had available in its early days and the engraving, of course, is much more artistic today on the Italian guns. Watch my Episode 38 when it comes out and I will show how a few of the London guns are now using CNC for major parts, but still hand fitting and hand finishing, but not using the space age steel technology that the Italian makers have discovered. The English know about those steels but would need to build all new equipment to change over.

Thank you for another informative video. Your Bertuzzi shotguns are works of art. If you are interested in the next generation of premium quality English gun makers I recommend test shooting a Longthorne shotgun. They use advanced engineering techniques to obtain high levels of precision, such as milling their double barrels from a single block of metal instead of the traditional method of brazing two tubes together.

Look up the history and you will be surprised at who copied who. At this same time, as Sako's Deluxe and Weatherby's Mark V, Browning's Safari was offered with similar looks with their first Medallion and the Olympic. It was a popular look in the sixties! And there were more copies of this look than these mentioned.

When you mentioned the extreme recoil fron NE cartridges vs 100 or so 12 guage shotgun shells, i assume its because the NE cartridges are burning much faster powders and accelerate those large heavy bullets much quicker than your average 12g shotgun can. Always been facinated with the double rifle concept in large heavy hitting cartridges. The ultimate in "stopping power". Here in Europe the 9.3mm cartridge is popular for shooting running boar, sometimes in a double rifle configuration.
@rogerrule81954 ай бұрын
I have a lot of respect for the 9.3 cartridges and have owned 9.3x74r doubles, 9.3x64 Brenneke Mauser, and a 360N0.2 John Wilkes double that George Caswell of Champlin Arms claims is the best of the 9.3 cartridges.
