It's a great album. I'm a bit too young to have been a first generation fan, but I know some people who were and some were disappointed with it when it first came out with the mop top harmonies and stuff having largely disappeared. Elvis Costello said in an interview that him and his friends at the time just openly didn't like it when it was first released and unlike previous albums they hardly played it. I think "Run for Your Life" upsets the woke brigade these days if you take the lyrics too literally. For a deluxe box set my vision would be the obligatory Giles Martin stereo remix, the original mono mix, the US version, an album of alternative mixes, and an EP with stereo and mono mixes of Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out similar to the Paperback Writer/Rain EP in the Revolver box - plus a book. I think any delay beyond next year would be very unpopular as most people were anticipating it for 2023. Like you say, it's each to their own. In my case I would have limited interest in an Anthology reboot, I would rather have the rest of the US albums than that.

A very Happy Birthday to Rubber Soul. I have to say that this album, along with Revolver (which is my favourite Beatles album by the way) and Sgt Pepper are my trilogy of albums that I play the most. Rubber Soul was the landmark album, that heralded the end of Beatlemania (a year later the band had come off the road for good to concentrate on their studio work). Their songs, and their songwriting took on a more experimental and introspective element, and when you think about it there is only a space of three years between this album and Love Me Do, that is quite an evolution musically that I don't think any band or artist has emulated since, the nearest I can think of would be David Bowie in the 70's. For me Rubber Soul is all killer and no filler. The whole album is just amazing, the harmonies, the arrangements, the lyrics. It was truly all coming together for The Beatles on this album, and then within, what, seven months they'd recorded and released Revolver. When I look through my playback history on my I-Pod the most played album on there is Rubber Soul. I do hope that we do get a Super Deluxe Box of this album, it truly deserves one, along the lines of what we got with Revolver. I did see Dino's video and I have to say I'd rather have The Anthology TV Series re released, nicely cleaned up and out on Blu ray rather than have the albums put out again. I do think that now is the time to have a bit of breathing space between releases, the market place is starting to get a bit crowded, and there could be a danger of this putting people off, especially at some of the prices being asked for these releases. I do think we will see a Rubber Soul box set next year, as I did read in an interview that the Rubber Soul Tracks added to the Red album from last year had already been remixed before the whole Red and Blue project came into being. (I still can't believe it's a year since we got Now and Then, and it topped the charts here in the UK) As we come to the end of another year, and what a year it has been for Beatles Fans, we have been spoilt with all we've got, but now is the right time for Apple/Universal to take a step back and stagger these releases a bit more, but that's just my opinion.

Great video & insight into in my own personal opinion when the Beatles went to another level & basically left the rest of music in their wake.... An astounding piece of work i had only a decade ago at around number 9 or 10 in my ranking of studio albums but now it is easily number 2 behind the greatest album ever made Abbey Road!! Everything is crossed for a 60th anniversary super deluxe box set next year with a plethora of extras 🙏

Am I the only person who is happy with their original mono and early stereo originals and hasn’t bought into the modern mixes. I did stream them for a while but nothing matches needle on mono vinyl. At some point its gotta come to an end and they should do the decent and release mono versions of their albums without having to buy an expensive box set.

No, I'm exactly like you. Using "Rubber Soul" as an example, I want the record that The Beatles made and George Martin produced, mixed, and mastered. It's as if you could take "Whistler's Mother" who's official title was" a study in charcoal and gray" and years later change it to "a study in chartreuse and magenta ". Who would want that? Peace and Love, Terry and Julia Tutor

Hi Dave, Rubber Soul (both the UK & USA versions) is my favorite Beatles album. In some ways, the American Capitol version flows better with a Dylan/Byrds type feel with "I've Just Seen a Face" & "It's Only Love." Still, it's great to have "Nowhere Man" & "If I Needed Someone" on the UK version.

Thanks, Dave; always enjoy and look forward to your videos. Nice collection you got there: I'm jealous! Tough getting good UK copies here in the Colonies. Luckily, I have a good mono and stereo original pressings. The UK lp is as it should be, not the US compilation. One of my 3 favorite Beatle lps (Revolver & A Hard Day's Night being the others). For box sets, I'd love to see a Magical Mystery Tour box, along with all the stray 1967 tracks. Lots of good out-takes and material to mine there. Guess we'll see....You make some great points regarding the box sets.

I must say the box set looks really good,I will probably invest at some point.I have all the album reissues from the seventies and have only played them once.Having said that why did Capital have to mishmash all the albums that the Beatles and George Martin put together including track listing.Capital just destroyed the Beatles Art and they hated Capital for doing it.The reason being Capital just wanted to take advantage.Your right Dave there will be a second volume and among that will be Rubber Soul and Revolver ,it was absolute sacrilege what they did to those albums ie cut the tracks down and leaving 2 John tracks off Revolver .Why?.Hope you enjoy your box Dave

Great review, Dave. Always glad to get your opinion and insight into Beatle products. It's interesting to get a non-American's viewpoint on these. I'm a 1st gen US fan, but for me, the UKs are the Beatle albums: I consider the Capitol records, like many others, compilations. Guess I'm just a snobby purist. I'm actually surprised Apple put these out, as I thought they wanted the catalog standardized. What's next, the German records? I think there are a lot more interesting projects they could have done, but that's just my opinion. I do agree with your observation, that they should have included "Introducing", as part of the box. It includes at least 12 tracks off Please, Please Me, while "Early" cuts off 4 songs. VeeJay has been out of business since 1965, so I'm sure that could have been feasible. We all know Capitol will be doing a Vol. 2., (1965-66) where that should have gone. As always, thanks for another great video.

I'm pleased with the albums that I have bought, Meet The Beatles and Beatles '65. They sound superb, but I did find them very loud and had to adjust the balance on my system when playing them. For me they are superior in sound quality to my copies on the 2004 CD box sets. I would have bought the box set had they not included The Beatles Story, but maybe just a book(written by Bruce Spizer and illustrated with some of Paul's photo's) I will be looking to get the other four albums to complete my set. Hopefully Dave the remaining Capitol albums will be released at some stage in the future (and if you're listening/watching this Apple, Yesterday and Today released with it's original Butcher cover) Many thanks for this video Dave, and to you and everyone else who has bought the box set or the individual albums, I wish you all nothing but happy listening......

Glad you got the Beatles US box for a discount price Dave but a pity about your George Harrison one not being available. My box set had to go back as there were skips on 4 of the discs. Re. the sound of the the records any modern vinyl mastering engineer worth his salt would have cut them better (which he did 100%) as they don't have to cut off the the top and bottom ends to cater for the cheaper turntables of the early 1960's. The engineer explained it in a Capitol/Beatles video that came out at the time of the Box release announcement. I think a book was not necessary as all the info is in each LP insert and would have bumped up the price a lot and be heavier to handle and ship. I believe the Veejay catalogue is now owned by Concord Music Group (Discogs info) so Capitol/Beatles/Universal could not have produced an 'Introducing' LP reissue in their box. Capitol, who virtually bankrupted the Veejay owner at the time via legal fees, basically pretend that Veejay and their LP never existed and in their corporate, timewarp thinking 'The Early Beatles' LP has replaced the Veejay one in early '64.😆
