I was a foreign exchange student and lived in Manizales for 3 months, 1 year before El Nevado del Ruiz erupted. Being from Florida living at sea level, I got altitude sickness from the 7100 ft altitude my first week there. The family I lived with lived in el centro just a couple of blocks from the big cathedral. They were wealthy and I had 2 maids who made me arepas and fresh fruit daily. They even ironed my underwear. The apartment was on the 10th floor and I had amazing views. El Nevado del Ruiz.s 17,000 ft peak covered in a glacier was in clear view.Manizales is such a beautiful city. No one spoke English. Our group of 8 gringos who were all exchange studnts were featured in the newspaper with our photos. People recognized us walking down the street "Oye gringo!" The family owned a coffee farm that I visited. I learned to drink aguardiente and ron de Caldes. We drove to Bogota. What a crazy drive, going high up above the clouds and freezing, down to hot tropical weather. We stayed at this resort in Melgar, where Bogotanos go to escape the cold. I can go on with stories! I have a special place in my heart for Manizales and Colombia

17:00 El Islam No Es Una Cultura, Es El Religion De Allah SWT, Islam Es Mas Importante Que Cualquier Cultura Incluso La Cultura Arabe I appriciate u making videos like these but i noticed that small mistake in translation, but its really a huge mistake for the Dawah, fighting against misrepresentation of Islam, and against the anti-muslim agenda, please, dont make that mistake again to respect us not just as a culture but as a family and as a religion, i love your work, keep making similar videos!

It's absolutely situational. Saying Medellin is dangerous is not as accurate as saying areas of Medellin are dangerous. Just like if you are a white guy from germany who doesn't speak english... walking around the south side of chicago, compton or harlem... it is just a matter of time before you will have problems. You are a person out of place, can't speak the language, and you are in a dangerous neighboorhood. So 1st... Learn freaking spanish if you are going to come to Medellin. Very important. The other risks are harder to mitigate but after living in East St Louis for like 3 years I can tell you Medellin is simply not nearly as dangerous. If you go to medellin and stay in the Santa Terreista zone you will never have a problem. They have 24/7 security and you can walk the street 24/7 without a fear in the world. North el central after 10pm at night.... now you are going to have almost certain problems with petty thieves and criminals. Bogata Santa Fe was literally like a damn movie for me there and I had no less than 6 robbery attempts in a few hours after 9pm. I never give money to criminals. It means empowering them and another victim. They would literally have to kill me to get anything from me because I can't stand the thought of the next person getting robbed because I was a coward. So basically i've been very very very very lucky. But I know where I'm at all the time and the associated danger. I would rather die as a crime stopper than live my life as a coward.

This is a great tour video man! I stayed in Cali last November and I had a really good time. I didn't feel like it was dangerous or anything. Being from the states, it feels like any big city. Just don't make dumb choices.. don't go out blingin on your own or walking dark alley ways haha. Just be normal, and be around people. I was cracking up at the fruit part.. when I was there I never seen so many different kinds of fruit, it was crazy!

42:42 Poor Colombian complaining about all the Venezuelans taking limited jobs from Colombians. Sound like a familiar complaint? Instability in Venezuela is dramatically affecting all of South American, Mexico, and the US with all the displaced people.

nah thats not true, anything after 1950 typically has a copyright of 70 or more years. Depends on the song and the author tho. Anyway I didn't want to risk it.

Muslims constitute a small minority in South America, accounting for approximately 0.34% of the continent's total population. Argentina and Brazil host the largest Muslim communities in the region, with populations of approximately 700,000 and 1.5 million Muslims. The percentage of Muslims in Colombia is very tiny, with estimates suggesting that about 0.01% to 0.05% of the population identifies as Muslim.

Andres, when you are talking about food quality, I understand what you mean. I have worked as a chef and I have owned an organic farm in the US. The quality of the typical vegetable, fruit, and meat ingredients is better at the average Colombian market than the average US market. Of course, you also live in New York City, which is a food desert. 99% of the food consumed in the city comes from hundreds and thousands of miles away. We are just talking about the typical ingredients available to the average person, and the manner in which those ingredients were raised or grown. Of course, the variety and quality of restaurant food in the US is staggering what is available. That is a different conversation. Living in New York City is really nothing like living in the rest of the US, so when you are making comparisons about the US and Colombia, you are absolutely only representing the experience of a small number of US citizens.

Seriously interesting content. Keep it coming. 85% of the people in Medellin are Paisa's, but I meet and interact with so many people there who are from other parts of Colombia or Venezuela. They come to Medellin for opportunities and quality of life. Great city.

"As of January 2024, Medellín hosts approximately 240,278 Venezuelan migrants (most of whom, like as many as 75% do not have government permission) accounting for about 10% of the city's population" Wow, let's talk about how this affects housing, jobs, and crime... They can't even get a bank account or legally rent an apartment.

I'm a little amused when Paisa's talk about "colonizers" since your DNA is 60-80% colonizer and your culture in Antioquia is much more strongly tied to your Spanish colonial heritage, reflected in your customs, dialect, and traditions in your region. In other words, you are literally the "colonizer" in the flesh compared to other regions of Colombia. Whereas Indigenous and African DNA is much higher in other regions. It's an interesting discussion anyways.

I just mentioned how sugar cane was one of their main exports, I didn't suggest we don't share DNA with them or that we didn't inherit alot of their customs. Obviously I wouldn't refer to myself as a colonizer since my blood is mixed with other races and my ancestors have lived in Colombia for centuries...

I was in Medellin and Guatape in 2022 into 23 right after Christmas. The Christmas season extends well beyond New Year's Day, with festivities continuing until January 6th, the celebration of Día de los Reyes Magos (Epiphany or Three Kings' Day). It was like having two Christmas for me that year, one in US and one there. And they start the season off like Dec 1st, so it's like more than a month long.
