I'm shocked at how much the crime rate has shot up. I live in the States and I traveled to Medellin in 2014 and lived there for 6 months. I was teaching English and also started learning Spanish there. I explored Medellin solo, even El Centro and I did not feel unsafe or threatened during the 6 months I was there - and I stuck out big time. I'm Asian and 5'11 which is pretty tall for an Asian. What a big difference 10 years make. I've heard horror stories of foreigners being drugged and robbed. A few killed. None of this happened in 2014. It's a shame. I wanted to visit again but now I'm thinking twice. I love your content though bro. Keep up the good work.

Yeah man after 2010 Colombia had been through so much violence that everyone was tired of it, up until the pandemic safety in Colombia had gotten a lot better. After 2020 the economy took a big hit and crime began to surge again, since then it’s just been downhill & the narco groups have also gained more influence and power over the past few years.

I've been to Medellin twice in the last 8 months and never felt unsafe once. Of course there's a chance of something happening but it's still safer than some US cities. Just be aware of your surroundings like any large city and don't do anything stupid and you should be fine.

Not only am I happy that I did not make the decision to retire in Colombia, in addition it appears I will never visit either....in the countries I mentioned you don't have to worry about being "Scoped!" I lived in California and moved to Texas when I was a teenager California is the highest human trafficking state next to Texas on top of Texas having one of the highest number for child trafficking. Texas has killings and murders and school shootings that have no intended purpose other than they can. As well as home invasion. With the light sprinkle of racism. 😂 on top of which the United States is responsible for the assassination of countless political individuals in our country and in others. But will pretend like JFK in other American political figures don't exist as well as the extreme poverty rate. The United States is one factor away from being a trifecta of a third world country😂 the United States ranks number 72 for the highest mortality rate in Colombia ranks number 91😂😂 but yea ok

Amazing video bro. One of the best I seen of the city. I loved Medellin and will definitely be back. I was robbed at knife point in Laureles in broad daylight right next to the metro. A man came up to me and tried to sell me a lollipop, and then pulled a knife out of his bag. Luckily I got to keep my phone. It was a learning experience, and I hope things can improve. Crazy to know the locals can feel the same way as paranoid tourist.

Just about to book my flight to Medeiin and staying in Laureles for 3 months when I saw your video. in numbers, it's low compared to the number of tourists visiting or living in the city, but how many robberies not getting reported? probably a lot. Now you got me confused... I've read online and a lot of people say - just be safe, don't walk alone at night, pay attention... etc so I decided to look for another place to live. and then I thought - in the city you have everything - it's not expensive, cafes, restaurants, nice women and men, everything. So I decided to book a flight. But if you need to worry and look around all the time for potential threats - so, why? is it worth it? Please tell me if it's this dangerous or if I should book a flight, I really can't decide! thanks for the video
@andresonearth5 ай бұрын
I made this video because I see many tourists who don’t understand how to behave in Latin America. People are a bit too nonchalant about situational awareness and safety. Many people online romanticize Colombia, but I wanted to show that it’s not all pretty here. It’s not nearly as dangerous as it used to be & Medellin is one of the “safer” cities in Colombia but Robbery is definitely common here and u are right many robberies don’t get reported. Just be aware of your surroundings and follow your gut feeling. Also make sure to speak decent Spanish!
@andresonearth5 ай бұрын
Also wether it’s worth it or not is dependent on ur situation & many other factors. I like living here because it’s my mother country and my family is here, so for me it’s worth it. but I also kind of like being on my toes and always aware of my surroundings, it keeps me sharp.

I can say with confidence that Medellin is safer than NY. I can't speak on Cali cause i haven't been there in a while.... but ive had zero issues there as well. People in NYC smoke crack, shoot herion, shit and pee, assault people, rob people, rape people. I'd rather deal with a sacol huffer or a basukero over the shit were seeing in the states. And to think Philly, Chicago, St Louis are worse than NY..... crazy.
