6:37 this is still one of the nicest shootout goals I’ve ever seen. Just so smooth with the release, perfectly placed!

I'll remember this moment for the rest of my life. I was 31 years old, when this happened. Noticed that Oshie pointed at Quick after he scored to win this classic.

I'm watching this 9 years later and 1 day before the 2023-24 NHL season kicks off and this shootout is still one of the most legendary moments in hockey I've ever seen. What an epic battle of rock-paper-scissors between Bob & Oshie.

It's because our magical undefeated gold medal run was abruptly halted in the semi finals in a loss to Canada and then embarrassed further in a Bronze medal loss to Finland. Nobody wants to remember that. This game would be talked about so much if we won Gold that year. Jonathan Quick, Patrick Kane, Joe Pavelski, Ryan Miller, TJ Oshie, Phil Kessel, etc. That team was stacked and arguably better than the 2010 team (except maybe not having Brian Rafalski for 2014). It's unfortunate we didn't show up when it mattered.

I remember on the national news the following night, they said, “We’re going to end tonight’s broadcast by showing you the shootout between Team USA and Team Russia in its entirety in case you missed it.” My parents are not hockey fans, and they were riveted. The NHL is so foolish for not letting the players compete in the Olympic Games any longer. It’s the greatest 2-week advertisement for the sport of hockey you could ever hope for.

I watched this at harrahs pool in Atlantic city. What a week that was! Lost 5k and when i left to come home i had 3 flat tires. Had to have my car towed to some garage in the slums around AC. I had no cash to pay so my friend lent me cash and i gave it back when we got back. There was no venmo then

By moving off the center line he forces the goalie to constantly reposition himself in his goal blindly. The goalie drifts a little to either post he abuses the gap that he made, if the goalie is focusing on staying center he just shoves it 5 hole, and while the goalie is so focused on the shot the move can be as simple as he wants cause the goalie will be late to react. Its a really short interaction so all the details matter and he is the absolute best to ever do it. Its not flashy because its effective, theres no tricks to it its just 7 really good options that look exactly the same and are all great. Its like if a pitcher had 7 really good pitches, its untouchable, youre just guessing.
