Man I'm ok at rowing but think I'm getting my heals up too much is that a problem with nubbies , how close does your bum come up to feet I try to go as far as I can is that a problem 😮😅

The amount your heel rises doesn’t matter. As long as the rest of the technique works you’ll be fine 💪

Turned 40 yesterday. To celebrate I completed my first 2k since high school. I finished at 7:43. All time PB for me. Made me happy. My goal for my next birthday is sub 7:00. Thanks for the motivation.

My *low pull* on the erg was a 1:14 about 7 years ago (age 43) and my best 500m was a cold start 1:28.2 at age 45. Now, age 50 and 4 full years removed from regular training... I'd be happy if I could crack 1:42.5 for a 500m

I like your thought process of counting then when it gets to the real part of the piece it’s time to get to work Because that’s where you commit more so mentally , rowing plays tricks with your brain because when you review the data I’ve often felt I was falling apart but the times, the stroke data didn’t show the same anywhere near as bad , Great videos Insightful nuggets of advice Thanks

I've noticed on your finish, on occasion your oars still drag a bit on the surface when feaethered - i have been trying to work on getting rid of that in my own technique. Do you find this 'dragging' to be an issue for me to be concerned about, and how much of an issue is that in the entire stroke? If so, any drills you recommend to improve?
@ProRowingTraining
@ProRowingTraining Күн бұрын
You could do square blades finish, or full stroke square blades, if that's too difficult balance with one blade flat on the water then take a square blade stroke with the other blade change for the next stroke then start to do both blades as you feel more confident hope this helps.

I’ve just made 5:49 my 1000m goal! lol. At 61 with significant health issues and recently beginning rowing at home my first 1000 in years came in at 6:23 few weeks on its 5:58. Think 5:49 is most definitely in reach, which would make you only twice as fast as me 🤔 Look out Cam man, I’m coming for ya!! Joking apart man, love your videos. Keep em flowing 🙏

I’d would suggest an all over workout and when advanced specialised like after six to 12 months , and also do some yoga to expand you ability to draw on your body as much as possible If you can’t feel it you can’t train it is how I think Keep up the good content When your younger you can go at it , your view might change when you get injured or get older

It helps up to a point. I'm a collegiate rower in the U.S and because I came into rowing from a powerlifting background, I was told by my coaches that there was basically no need for me to lift weights. I'm allowed to lift if I want and it doesn't affect my rowing program, but my baseline strength was already way above what's required for rowing.

@CameronBuchan
@CameronBuchan 5 күн бұрын
The rowing machine doesn’t have a difficulty setting. The harder you push, the harder it becomes, like running or cycling. Phil has the fan set to around 8-9 on the scale but that doesn’t mean a 4 or 5 would be easier

When I was fit (twenty years ago) pulled a 1.11 which I was quite pleased with. My best 500 was a 1.23 when I was a novice but I didn’t do one at my peak. This guy’s a beast, obvs, but he’s only doing half slide at best. Not really rowing, just very impressive erging!!
@CameronBuchan
@CameronBuchan 11 күн бұрын
Might be “half slide” but handle travel is still quite far considering rating 50+ would go fast on the water too doing the same thing
@jiminycricket9877
@jiminycricket9877 11 күн бұрын
@ handle travel yes, but only because he’s 6’6 plus!! Please don’t think I’m being negative, I used to argue endlessly about this. I think I fell out with just about all my club mates at one point or another. Basically, not using your legs and horsing the finish is a terrible way to row. If you’re not getting your front end right you might still be fast, but it’ll be all physique and not technique. Cheers and all the best.

@ 6 10! Yes! Indeed. I’m used to people saying something along the lines of “if he rowed longer he’d go faster” and thought that’s the route you were taking so apologies for that!

The argument is having a solid sole can help transfer power easier and the raised heel means you can plant the whole foot quicker

Legs, body, arms - what a difference it makes. I'm returning from severe injuries and rowing is my main focus. Being an exercise in a seated position is perfect for me, I think i'm becoming addicted. Cam - let me ask, I have reduced sensation and limited strength in my hands, and on several occasions have lost my grip, any tips please?

Am looking for some gen information on times on 5k i am 42 years of age and have trained all my life to a high standerd i do alot of sprint work boxing and weight lifting am 18 stone and have always had a good engine. Last year i fell pushing a car for somone to get it going a dilocated my knee and couldnt do any cardio for 8 weeks. I kept up my upper body but left my cardio till i new my knee and quad could take the pressure. And i have switched my equipment from a treadmill skipping rope bag and pads dor the first time in 20 years i have only been rowing again for 8 days and managed 19.00 for my first effort 5k and i felt i had more to push but was scared to fully let go with the reovery of my knee as i cant jog or jump onit without it feeling unstable. I remeber as a young man i used to implment rowing quite abit due to haveing more time and hitting sub 17min times but it was never my go to exercies even though iwas advised by people this eas very good. So am my question is how rare is it for s man my age my size and my experiance to get a 19min 5k with literally 8 days teaining and how mucb can i exapect to inprove with the healing of my leg and with say a time frame of a year with rowing regularly. Also i forgot to add am 6ft1 not overly tall for rowing but i have always had good stenth abd cardio.

Our coach back in college would watch our timed 2k, he was a major in the marines and a stickler for technique... Do, any "funny stuff" to attain a better time and your effort would be disqualified... That said, we had 4 old beat to hell concept 2 model B's.... My best 500m with proper form was 1:15:00 and 2k was 6:09:00... One summer between rowing seasons, I was in a private gym that had a brand spanking new unboxed Concept 2 model C... No dust on it, and when I did a stroke it was smooth as butter. The stars all aligned and with my coworker watching (he was a cyclist who could have cared less of what I was about to accomplish) I pulled my only 6:00:72 2k of my life... Never bothered telling coach, because if he didn't see it, it never happened...
