Showy for the cameras, but the grunting adds nothing to a smooth, powerful, efficient stroke.

The oldest building, now occupied by a rowing club, is Furnival Sculling Club at Hammersmith in London. Their boathouse started life as the Red Lion pub and is shown on maps dating from before 1840

What a beautiful body of water and sculling to match. Lining that straight stern line up with the notch in the hills was an impressive finishing touch. Did you have to check whether the loch is privately owned? I was surprised to see that there were no obvious docks at the few buildings on the loch which made me wonder whether there are restrictions on shoreline access or recreational water use on the lochs in Scotland. Just curious. I hope that you had mobile phone signal the whole time and that your partner could track your progress. And my heart was in my mouth when I watched you carrying the single over the wet and slippery rocks in your bare feet! (Can you tell I'm a mom ☺)

Glad you enjoyed it! I don’t think there are at lochs in Scotland that are privately owned. Even if they were there is a law in Scotland stating that essentially if you’re not damaging or causing issue you can be on the land. Access is also limited which will reduce the numbers using the loch. Also, there are many many lochs to choose from! Barely any signal for this loch!

Beautiful row along! I loved Scotland when I lived there. I was really chuckling at your beach launching and retrieving antics. That is the only way I do it; this morning my row was at very low tide (mud and barnacle encrusted rocks to walk across). I'll bet you regret tossing your shoes ashore! And leaving oars floating? No way! They would be gone by the time I got my boat on my shoulder for the long walk back to the truck. Come visit me sometime and I'll teach you the efficient way to do that 😆.

@@CameronBuchan question.do they allow you to put anything on the bottom of the boat to cut down on the friction of the water to the hull of the boat, in swimming some swimmers use PONDS COLD CREAM to rub on themselves to cut down on the friction of the body to the water, the cold cream really sticks to the body and wont wash off so you stay nice and slick, ever thought of doin something like that to the hull of the rower???

I'm 73. Last year I was walking home and collapsed on the street. I made it back but they diagnosed me with a heart block at the local OR. They had my heart in the 30's I think. Two days later they decided to test for a stroke and discovered that I had one of those, too! I was helicopters to another hospital and they inserted a pacemaker. Trouble was I had afib. Probably it was a healthy heart except for the rhythm., so when screwed up blood clotted. I've had two ablations and probably removed the source of the problem, but I'm ok with the pacemaker (does nothing unless I dip below 60 and it can be set otherwise). So my great heart wasn't perhaps as healthy as I thought despite a lot of bike riding over the last few decades.

For what was effectively a scratch crew, that was an absolute demon of a start! The crew on the stroke side were hanging onto your tails (just) at a lower rate but your push call at the 1K finished them off and all they had were your puddles. The biggest takeaway (apart from thrashing the oppo), was you sounded only slightly knackered at the finish compared with races over previous years especially in sweep - your training on and off the water has really hit the sweet spot 🎉 Excellent Yamming 😎

May I ask, at the finish, it looks a bit like the camera starts moving towards the stern while the hands are still moving towards the bows. Is that real, not a trick of the lens (or maybe a head movement), and if so is it intentional?
@CameronBuchan6 күн бұрын
I think looking into it a bit much perhaps. Most likely, the stabilisation trying to do its best!
