This is not how you would ideally do a cut and turn. The "right" way to do it is to only cut the weld at the C's, without cutting into the axle tube. The C's are pressed onto the original axle tube. With the weld cut, you then hammer off the C, grind off all the weld and prep for rewelding, rotate it, then hammer it back on at the desired angle. This way you do not lose any of the original axle strength. The way you did it relies only on your add-on sleeve, and weld for strength, which is weaker than leaving the original tube intact.
@trailandco7 күн бұрын
You are correct I believe I mentioned this in the video. Given that the axle sleeve is thicker than the original axle tube I would not agree that this was weaker however. If I didn't do the axle sleeve then this would not be a good way to do it.

I have a 2011 ford ranger fx4 off road with a solid front axle swap. So I was thinking about getting a Spartan locker for my front axle for when I go off road to have full traction. But the problem is I'm worried about steering binding because of it & daily driving. Do you recommend a limited slip or auto locker?
@trailandcoАй бұрын
I can't speak for the Spartan locker but this powertrax locker is awesome! 0 issues with daily driving, it's invisible.
@genoory5090Ай бұрын
@trailandco okay. Cool. I was worried of getting it bind up in sharp turns while driving on pavement . But I guess imma get it👌🏻.

7:40 You would use a square to place them square. like you have at 11:42 Or a 45* to set a part at 45*. Not everything needs to be jigged at 90* Even if you need something super precise you can still achieve this with setup tools rather than the actual location of the holes to go by. I think those angle buttons are threaded for you to buy the required bolts if you needed to bolt them in place. Someone else put a small drill type vise on their table simply by bolting on a plate that had the pins on it. He just dropped it in place for light duty clamping/cutting operations.

What size do you drill it out to
@brandonc.92448 ай бұрын
You can also just drill the XJ fitting to 3/16s on your stock pump and get that lighter steering and all while saving saving ton of money and hassle by doing this swap. Learned the hard way cause I did this swap and had a pump that didn’t quite work right. Would whine at acceleration and grind at lock. Save your money and time, just don’t do this swap

had the same experience with the red rustoleum. Prepped the metal with acetone, 2 coats of primer and was tacky and semi wet even after about a day and a half of drying. It might have been the humidity. But I did end up hitting it with a clear top coat and that made it a lot harder and more durable.
