Very cool. As 6'7" 255 lbs flyer myself, great to see the smooth performance. You certainly have built a variety of rigs and many iterations. I fly VR too. What is the attachment to the top of your G2 HMD? Some kind of tracker to compensate for Rig movement?
@dampflieger Жыл бұрын
Thank you! That box on the HMD is a PointCTRL pointing device. It allows you to point and click on buttons/switches in DCS. It reads the position of two finger mounted units. I was not wearing them as IL-2 does not have clickable cockpits.

Your missing the seat belt tensioners 🤦
@dampflieger Жыл бұрын
The rig has seat belt tensioners. Notice the vertical bars at the back? The seat belts are attached to that and so to the bottom platform. When the top platform slides forward it tightens the seatbelt. This passive system works excellent. I borrowed the design from Sim Racing Garage.

Hello dampflieger, I wanted to ask you that uses TrackIR 5 motion head together with dynamic platform. I simulate too with a 3DOF motion system (ProSimu) and a SimTools v2.0 Professional License. The movements are always perfect in various games simulator but yesterday, after buying and installing the TrackIR 5 hardware and software, using various driving games I noticed that the movement of the 3 actuators no longer responded as before! The movements of the 3DOF were slow and out of time and synchronous, while the movement of my head (and the corresponding movement inside the various cars) was right. So I decided to uninstall TrackIR 5 (hardware and software) and my 3DOF motion system is back to normal, with all the movements that perform exactly the roughness of the ground and the stresses of the cars. If someone has encountered these same problems, how did he solve it?

@dampflieger7 жыл бұрын
It is a Selle Royal Respiro Moderate. Very comfortable saddle but I did break one of the rails on my Pacific Northwest tour in August. I do not blame the seat ;) I did purchase another one. I have both a Brookes B17 leather and a cambium but both gave me saddle sores on long rides. Great for short rides though. See my other video for more details on the broken rails.

I wish I had your kind of talent, I got lots of ideas but no idea how to make it happen nor the money to pay somebody that does. Is there someway to make it quieter? I think I read that you used a winch motor?
@dampflieger8 жыл бұрын
+Jay Simons Thanks Jay, I appreciate your comment. Check out the link in the description for the build thread and of course the other builds at XSimulator. There are far better, and quieter, builds than mine. Yes, I did get it quieter by enclosing the winch motors but certainly not whisper quiet. See my newer videos for examples.

Nice but noisy! What is causing all the mechanical noises
@dampflieger8 жыл бұрын
+Donal Fitterer Hi Donal, looked for you last night at Mid-Ohio. The noise is created by the boat winch motors that that I am using. The open gearing is pretty loud but with the enclosure it is much less than what it was before. I usually drive with headphones on an so do not hear it anyway. My rig is louder than most because it is a full platform and I needed actuators with grunt to lift me and the rest of the steel frame rig. With a lot more money I could have gone with powerful and quiet AC motors but I was building this one as cheap as possible. A lighter frame and lighter driver or even just a seat mover type would have enabled me to use less powerful but quieter DC motors (still pretty cheap).
@ross-carlson7 жыл бұрын
I was wondering that too - would drive me nuts as I don't use headphones. I have a simple Pagnian V2 motion that's very quiet, you can barely hear the fan if everything else is turned off.

Hello Friend. I saw its mobile platform project for simulators and really enjoyed it. Maybe it's one of the cheapest to build. I have some notion of electronics, but did not want the job. I wonder how much charge to send me only the electronics all ready set to install on the mechanics. I already have the engines, deck and mechanical parts. If you can not do know someone that does? I await contact. Tanks Leandro

nice I like but fix tha noise :)
@dampflieger9 жыл бұрын
alfredo3895 Hi Alfredo, The big drawback to this setup is of course the noise. Since I use headphones I do not hear it. The geared motors are inherently sloppy and so noisy. The cost of developing a different system to make it noiseless would be prohibitive. A smaller 2D seatmover setup would be much quieter but I like the entire platform movement and so can live with the noise.
@IS300driver2610 жыл бұрын
The noise that thing makes us awful.
@dampflieger10 жыл бұрын
Hi Donnie, I agree that it is loud but I use headphones so never hear the noise. I can put up with the noise considering the thousands that I saved over commercial alternatives. And since I made this video I have greatly reduced the gear noise, still not quiet but something that I can put up with. Thanks for checking out the video.

Hi Rift, the 6DoF project has stalled while I have been rebuilding the platform above. I added a traction loss system (fishtailing), three monitors, custom controllers (button boxes, analog handbrake, sequential shifter, 7 speed H-gate shifter), seat belts, fairings, vinyl graphics, quad bass shakers, etc. I need to get an updated video together one of these days. I am nearly to the place where I can get back to the 6DoF but need to figure out a better method to connect the connecting rods.
