I honestly always expect a demeaning opinion of someone’s first time listening to Thall. It’s just the classic symptom of being uneducated in what this type of music is, I don’t blame ya because most people will have your opinion. But, subjectively speaking, you are completely wrong. Understandingly so.

Never For Ever was Kate Bush’s third album. It was the last one that involved a professional producer (engineer Jon Kelly). She recorded mostly of it at EMI Studios, also known as Abbey Road. She was collaborating with Peter Gabriel at the time, and like him, became very excited with the new sampling technology available using the Fairlight sampler. At this point, she only used it for effects, such as the breaking glass in “Babushka” and the “string quartet” in “Army Dreamers”, but her albums after this were mostly composed using the Fairlight, for several years, leading to a very different sound. But this one is my favorite, as it is her most self-assured while still having an outside producer, and it also has that beautiful Abbey Road sound as well.

1978. I can tell you; when this was shown on TV for the very first time, in the town where I live, (I'm British by the way) I went to the local Chip Shop shortly after that same evening (maybe you heard of those in the States?) well, they were ALL talking about this Song, performance and Singer in the queue, who none of us had ever heard of because it was her debut - it sort of shocked everyone, because as you felt too; nobody had ever seen or heard anything like Kate Bush before!! It shot to Number One in the UK for four weeks . She is a UK Artist. The Song is about the classic novel 'Wuthering Heights' The character she's being in the Song (Cathy) is dead in the story; she lost the fight against illness and things were wrong between her and Heathcliff, when she died, and so she is desperately trying to get back from 'the other side' (the grave) to make things right between them. She haunts Heathcliff and visits him each night at his bedroom window pleading with him to let her in. Of course he can't because she's a ghost and so she is asking for his soul. (in other words to join her) Hope this helps!

I know I’m a year late but if you’re a big fan of the instrumental then check out “They Move Below” off their most recent album if you haven’t already. Almost a 10 minute song but it’s meditative 😅super cool

Mushrooms. I think from the Amanita Family - or a other psychedelic Kind. It's an old shamanic Tradition in the North. You find it today in Siberia and some other Cultures. It helps to get Contact with the Spirits of Ancestors and the Ghosts of Plants and Animals ...

The ‘wooden instrument’ she played was a ‘GemsHorn’, a kind of flute. The ‘GemsHorn’ dates back to the Middle Ages or further.

Whilst recognising that tastes differ, I did notice that you appreciated the artistry present in this song. It’s really hard to appreciate how influential an artist is when looking at the picture from the future. I’d suggest exposing yourself to multiple Kate Bush records. But I’d also recommend looking at it in reverse. Start with the modern interpretation and work backwards. Only the then will you appreciate the path taken. Having said that, another early song “The Man With The Child In His Eyes” may be a great choice.

The fade out is a way of making a melody feel like it goes on forever. It's very powerful and absolutely not lazy. A fade can be done poorly and it can be done well, but when it's the ending of a haunting melody (like this song), it's magical.
@fizzyridertoo3 ай бұрын
In case you hadn't worked it out, the sound effect her eyes reacted to was the sound of a rifle bolt being cocked. The references to BFPO are about the postal used system used by the British Forces Post Office. Each military base has a unique BFPO number ,much like a Zip code.

Her dress should be seen in context with the theme more than the contemporary time. The "story" of the visuals is a representation of events from the classic novel "Wuthering Heights". The visuals and style altogether are to create a ghostly effect in keeping with the theme. This opinionated man pronounces with a confidence inversely related to his knowledge and insight.

This piece is art. Like a musical canvas, it's all these ideas and ironic things being thrown on a "canvas" like paint. You can either take it all in, or try to define it, but there is no one definition for O Superman. It's a collage of ideas all thrown together in an 8 minute thought process.
