Will there be part 2? Natlan has new regions and so many new names that I couldn't pronounce :(

Hi there! There already is a part 2, but it doesn't include the new region that came out recently. I'm waiting for another region expansion to make a bigger video in case more regions have Nahuatl names.

@@exiledprince Definitely do that! It would be seriously useful and valuable for those who want to learn more of the language. You and Mati Mati have a great approach to teaching it. I mentioned this in the previous video but there are many of us outside the US and the Americas who are interested in learning about native American languages. I am Indonesian myself and I have been fascinated with researching indigenous American cultures for a long time. I also followed Yan Garcia's The Nahuatl Channel as an example.

To clear up any confusion, the term "Aztec" is not correct, the term is "Mexica." This was how they called themselves and how they were called by Europeans. The term Aztec was introduced centuries later by a translation error.
@exiledprince
@exiledprince 3 ай бұрын
The main reason why I used the term "Aztec" is due to how many of us in English speaking countries learned about Mesoamerican history from schools. Most people don't even know that they're supposed to be called Mexica and Aztec is an incorrect term that was created long after the Spanish invasion. what we were taught were the Olmecs, Mayans, and "Aztecs" very briefly until colonization.

It's really nice that someone from our culture did this too! I understand since the voice over is in English they just prononuce things according to their language, but I appreciate when players around the world are interested in the actual pronunciation, especially when it comes to character names. I think "cacahuatl" is far from mening peanut in Spanish though. "Cacahuatl" means “bitter juice” and it's the word they used to refer to the cacao fruit in nahuatl, while "tlalcacahuatl" was the original word for "peanut".

I'm Mexican but please don't say Aztec, is Nahuatl, Nahuatl wasn't the language only spoken by aztecs (mexicas) the language was spoken even before they came to the center of Mexico. Other cultures that lived here also spoke nahuatl.

Maybe it's because of the influence of spanish language, but I thought many of those would be pronounced differently, at least based from similar modern day toponyms.

Espectacularmente bien investigado. Normalmente todos se equivocan con el nombre de Citlali. Ya que muchos españoles le dicen "Ci-tla-lí" (lo dicen con la sílaba tónica en la última), cuando en realidad se pronuncia "Ci-tlá-li" (con la sílaba tónica en la penúltima sílaba).

As someone from a mayan region, I would love to hear you pronunciating the word, the most important sound its when there is a K, cause its usually a tongue play similar to the sound of a can being open

My Maya is not good at all. I'm barely getting comfortable with Nahuatl and I think it's a miracle I can pronounce "tl" (even for being a Mexican, I credit my dad for calling me a "tlacuache" a lot as a kid). I talked to one of our guys about "Xbalanque" and he says the "-que" has a unique sound to it

As a multilingual, I absolutely value saying foreign languages correctly to at least the nation's standard accent and dialect. No, I will fucking not genuinely say Mon-staaat, it's Mondstadt (Mon-shtaht). It's not John Lee, I will say Zhongli (Writing how to speak Chinese accent is hard). No, not Arrrataki Ittho (that English soft R), it's Arataki Itto (hard R, no spit on the Itto). No it's not Ty-nari, it's Tighnari (Tee-ghnari). It ain't Neeuurvillette, it's Neuvillette (New-villette). It's not Nat-lan, it's Na-TLAN. Also some of the above may be wrong. Thanks for the great video.
