@@Matt-i7t I use an Evans EMAD Heavyweight which is the thickest drumhead from Evans. Tuning is low. I also use Audix D6 and Solomon Lofreq.

One obvious change there is you moving your foot 1/2 way back down the pedal! Something tells me that spring tension is crucial, here(?). I have a nice pair of Pearl P3002D pedals so no excuses for me now :-) Love these tutorials!
