Thank you, that was an informative video. i'm in agreement with you because I've tried those ones too. I've settled down for the longest time, after I put in a pair of Nesstone EL 34's. They sound right and the price was right. Thanks again for taking the time, making your videos.

I have a Modi 3+. My system is bright and analytical with excellent detail and jaw dropping soundstage. My only gripe is in movies quiet scenes it’s completely silent sucking out all the ambiance making the scene looks synthetic and unreal. If I switch out the Modi with the Geshelli would this add ambient sound to quiet scenes in movies? Could the gain bump help?? If so, to me, it would not be a lateral move but a next level improvement

couldnt agree more. Other high-end dongle DACs just enhance the technicalities artificially, such as DC Elite, L&P W4, CM18P, or even Cayin RU7.

The A10 is an integrated amp and there are no separate amp and preamp taps, so there's not really a good way to use it with your Sony. You can definitely use a CD player with it, though.

Nice video. Interesting take on the Mojo2. People criticise the UI and appearance of Chord products, but the steampunk styling appeals to me personally. The style also reminds me of the products of the British motorcar industry, like TVR, Bristol, Lotus, Noble etc. It is a refreshing change from the, imo, bling black boxes with blurry displays. I found the Mojo2 to be preferable over the Glare of the ESS saber dacs in my audiolab amp, audioquest dragonfly cobalt, cambridge audio streamer. I also found the Mojo2 to be warmer, but not as incisive as the Chord Qutest that the chord experience led me to purchase. I am not an audiophile btw. The Qutest takes over the "main system" duty of the Mojo. No regrets that I got the Mojo2/Poly combo.

Hello, I am currently using my vintage Marantz as a pre-amp, connected to an Emotiva amplifier. Planning on getting the Topping as a DAC. Do you think i should also use it as a pre amp, or leave it the way I have it now? I also have a turntable playing thru the Marantz
@nadiraudio
@nadiraudio 2 ай бұрын
I would try it out both ways and see which one you like better. I suspect the biggest difference will be a smaller soundstage and less precise imaging on the vintage pre-amp, but it also depends on what speakers you'll be using.

I also have a Rotel Tribute cd player for my 2nd system . Very detailed sound for price Drawer feels a little flimsy but no complaints for £300 🇬🇧 uk new I paid a year & half ago. On my main system I have a 12 year old Onkyo C7070 - which at £450 🇬🇧was a significant step up sound quality wise from C7030 referred to in this video & does sound better, a little more analogue warmth & with more depth & weight than the Tribute with my Naim AB class amplifier. 🎶 The cd recess on the Onkyo drawer is VERY shallow. A CD slide over the back whilst the drawer was closing & jammed. A local hi Fi repair guy retrieved it & I was really impressed seeing the internal build quality.

Most cassette decks need full serviicing and retuning by now. Done so the 480 is one hell of a deck albeit and entry level Nakamichi. I collect Nakamichi decks and still looking for more. To date only managed to acquire one each: BX125, BX150, BX300, CR7, ZX9, RX505, 680zx and two: 480 decks one black one silver. Ok re the 480. It’s the best basic 2 head Nakamichi ever. Because it shares the classic Nakamichi dual capstan transport and uses the pad lifter on the head. The heads are also made in house by Nakamichi. The main necessary electronics are also top notch sharing the best circuits with the higher end Nakamichi. Nothing was spared within it’s basic specs. Missing is Dolby C which generally one does not need as all commercially prerecorded tapes if Dolby encoded need only Dolby B to playback. For recording Dolby B is very good for ferrics. I find Dolby C a little over boost in the lower treble with any deck. With type ii and metal you don’t need Dolby as all Nakamichis can record at high levels with no distortion. Yes the 480 has no user tape recording calibration like higher end Nakamichis. But you can calibrate any blank tape inside using 400hz and 15khz test tones and comparing the db levels using an oscilloscope or a computer sound level apps to match source and recording. A bit of work since you cannot monitor but after a few recordings and checking results you’re good to go. You’ll be amazed how good it can record as did l. I pre-calibrated mine to TDK AD, SA and MA as l have lots of these. Of course nowadays since acquiring the CR7 and ZX9 my recordings are done on these.

Hi! Sorry for the silly question. I listen to music and movies via my laptop. I sometimes use Fxall as an equalizer in my laptop. This is routes to a basic DAC then a NAD or a Marantz 1601 depending on my mood ;) and a good pair of speakers. Would this dac make a difference for my type of setup which is not really/pure audiophile? Thank you!

Hello from Australia. I own a fully integrated PrimaLuna Valve or Toob amplifier as you guys say it. Its running 6 12AU7s in the pre-amp stage and 8 KT120 Valves in the power end of things. While I found the EL34s pleasing enough, it did need a bit more grunt. There are 2 switches on the right side hand side to select either a HP or LS (Headphone or Loud Speaker) and another switch to select EL OR KT valves and as the amp has adaptive auto bias, it was great not to get the multimeter out like I did 7 years ago. Having a selector switch for headphones was a great idea as I've never been fond of plugging in headphones and expecting that socket to choose between the speakers and cans. I would have gone with 8 KT150s but those valves are too tall to allow the cage to to fit properly and as bandwidth is what you have to worry about, the KT120s are fine. The 6 12AU7s are so quiet it was ridiculous to valve roll except for some Sylvania tubes which were, for a NOS tube didn't make any difference and at $600 dollars for them, I couldn't justify the expense. The switch on the left side was a dedicated power switch and even though there is a remote control, I'm quite happy to shut the amplifier off by hand. The remote is heavy and the whole amplifier is point to point quality. I love it. Google the company. It really is a great piece of kit. Cheers Andrew.

Audiolab CD transport to Yammy as-701 via audioquest coaxial. I speccd the DAC with sparkos opamps and akm base chip. Carina bookshelves with SVS sub. Sounded detailed and wider than anything else in the $300 price range. But I couldn’t listen for more than 15 mins. Just too much information, and less musicality. Ears and head plain hurt. Odd as it sounds.

Yes, you should be able to connect your iPad to the E30 lite, then the E30 into your amp. You'll need an adapter cable, though. For a Lightening iPad, you'll need the Lightening to USB camera adapter. If your iPad is USB-C, you can use a USB-C to USB cable.

Do you know if the Rotel A11 has gapless playback with programmed consecutive tracks? I like to listen to specific parts of CDs and if these programmed sections happen to have tracks that segue into one another without interruption, ie. classical music, gapless playback becomes very important. One way to do a quick test is program a couple of consecutive tracks from a live recording and listen for the sound to break up in the applause between songs.

Hello, i’m looking at purchasing this actual model close to me here in Canada and I assume you attach your turntable to this box inputs, the turntables ground to the boxs ground and then the output does it go back into the phono of the receiver or does it have to go to an auxiliary? Both outputs are always on and can be used at the same time, so you could run one to your amp and the other to your subwoofer. Schiit recommends that you don't leave devices connected to the output that short their input when turned off, though, as this can cause distortion.
