Hi! I'm just finding your channel. We are looking to start homeschooling but are still deciding on the curriculum. I'm wondering if you preferred my father's world or generations with your children. I saw you had videos on both. Thanks so much for any suggestions or preferences.

I feel like we all collected unnecessary books during the first year or two of homeschooling when we were still trying to figure out what we like and how our families operate best. Once you find your groove, it is easier to let go of all the extras. Good job!

I've gone though a lot due to multiple moves, but I still have a lot. I have a hard time due to the fact that I have graduated 2, but I have a 2nd grader too. It's hard to know what of the older grades to hold on too, or if I should get rid of the older editions and get the new ones, very hard due to a limited budget. Nonetheless, it was an inspiring video to watch. Thanks

Uhg it's taken over my house right now and driving me crazy. I need to pull the donation items out... but the rest can be sold. BUT I missed my selling window this year. If I don't sell it this next year, I'm donating it. LOL!! I only have one left, and I need to critically look at his older brothers' stuff and really think whether we'll use any of it. The longer it sits, the more likely it will become outdated and worthless.

I have an extreme small space to work with. We live with my in-laws in one converted living room (5 kids 5-11) and we have to get rid of stuff all the time. It breaks me because a lot of times I knew I’d use it again! But most times I actually didn’t or I just settled for something free I could download. So if I had a home of my own I’d be a hoarder at least for a few years lol

My husband and I are night owls so it’s painful waking up at 7am with the kids. I can’t imagine waking up even earlier. I have to try and work out while my daughter naps at 12pm and my toddler plays quietly. I can’t wait for my daughter to start waking up later like my son. She wakes up at 6:30am and I’m a zombie.

I needed this video so badly (and I'm definitely checking out that bookshelf!). Our rough start has been going for about a month now! I'm a mom of two teen girls, so I have all that, but then also the baby now too so I feel like a hot mess most days. Have you read Decluttering At the Speed of Life??? I LOVED that book! How do you encourage your kids to be self-starters? I am tempted to outsource more curriculum solely because I simply can't do it all, but I also can't exactly trust my girls to get a lot of their stuff done if I'm not helicopter mom. 😵‍💫

My 12 year old son has been struggling with math. Ive tried memorizing multiplication. Ive tried block counting, singing lol. But he can not get it. Hey friend! That sounds really difficult. I'm not really sure how to answer, since I'm not an expert in that area. We use Teaching Textbooks. For my kids, I just had to jump ship to different curriculum to see what sticks with them. Maybe try some sample curriculum and see if he clicks with it?

We loved Teaching Textbooks too! Specifically for learning multiplication, we used Times Tales. It teaches them in story form. The kids learned them in about 2 weeks. I'm really sorry to hear about his diabetes diagnosis, perhaps you'll find some herbs to help with memory boosting that may be useful to him.

I didn't get algebra, not even with Math-U-See. I learned from the book Every Child Can Succeed by Cynthia Ulrich Tobias about Gregorc's mind styles. I discovered that I was a dominant Concrete Sequential, which are usually not good with abstract math (unlike dominant Abstract Sequentials). I'm good with basic arithmetic, especially when it comes to making budgets.

Just a curious question, because it is something I have thought about for myself. How do you feel about *creating* content for others to consume (Instagram, Facebook, KZbin) while greatly diminishing your own usage of these platforms? I stopped using Instagram this year, but I've thought about going back on and making a book account...but in order for my time to be profitable, I'd need links and of course creating content is asking people to consume my content when I am trying not to be on social media.
@mandy-maltz
@mandy-maltz 22 күн бұрын
Interesting question! I still use KZbin for information, like millions of people. Most people have to consume content in one form or another. I utilize blogs for recipes, DIYs, and more. Personally, I have trouble controlling my urge to scroll. That's my personal problem that I have to deal with. Not everyone deals with that same problem. I still use KZbin for curriculum information, which the same content I create. People consume content in millions of ways, books, magazines, tv, movies, blogs, videos. I create helpful content for my friends as a hobby while reminding them and myself (because it's me who has the problem) that we can watch content with limitations. Because I totally need those limits 🤣

Loved this!! I’ve had such a tug to spend less time on my phone. I’ve stopped scrolling on FB and no longer go on Instagram. I do check FB for our homeschool group stuff but I don’t look at my feed at all 😅. I find I’ve been forgetting my phone behind places which I find funny but also nice as it’s showing me how I’ve been going on it less. I was wasting so much time, it was killing my motivation, caused anxiety and would have me not present even while sitting down to homeschool. It’s freeing now. Just finished reading a book called Stolen Focus that was great! Currently reading the Ruthless Elimination of Hurry which also hits on this stuff ❤️. Happy for you!

KZbin is the only "social media" I use... and it's just as bad with scrolling. Even causing mental overload with hearing what everyone says about what they are doing in homeschooling. I've had to set up the "digital well being app" on my phone so I can access the essentials without the distractions getting in the way, especially during the homeschool day when its so tempting to just scroll while wwiting for my kid in K to finish her lessons. I can turn off the setting when the wchool day is done with all 4 kids and I'm not as mentally overwelmed from doing too much! Do what you need to eliminate the distracrions!
