I read this book "Writing Better Lyrics" a couple of times - the author says to create a bunch of song snippets... Covers, originals, it doesn’t matter. He advises an early songwriter (like me) to put in "creation reps"… not everything is going to be remarkable… but we won’t get better unless we try and fail and try and fail and keep doing that. Agreed that the lyrics could be stronger. What artists are resonating with you these days? Here are a few for me at this moment in time: 1. Russ 2. Mackenzy Mackay 3. 6lack 4. Azizzi Romeo 5. Chris Webby

@hachadeguerra9945 - I'm certainly not a content expert just yet - I consider myself a strong beginner.... so take what I say with a grain of salt. That being said, I'm happy to share my existing strategy. I've been doing highly edited short-form videos and (almost completely) unedited long-form videos. I'm doing the long form this way to give myself a chance to speak freely to the camera in a more relaxed, slightly roundabout way. I'm doing the short-form this way because I think it gives my viewers the highest ROI (in terms of entertainment or value or both) per second. I think this is a great strategy to employ for total beginners and strong beginners... maybe even more seasoned KZbinrs too. It makes creating content very fun. Plus it's time effective. Editing a short-form video can be done in 1-3 sittings / cost less if you outsource it. A long form video will be much more expensive to edit

@@rishikarri anytime I pick up a new hobby or start doing something for fun (or school starts again for me since I'm a student), I usually get burn out. A main cause in this is setting goals that seem even just in reach with normal people. I feel like considering 'great' effort when normal people would put in 'good' effort will lead to worse burnouts. I tried making a webcomic once. It was three pages a week, which I thought I could easily do... I was wrong. Around page thirty-something, I decided to take a break because I was wrong about the amount of effort. Two-ish years later, I still haven't returned or attempted making a webcomic because I put too much effort into that webcomic.

I like this a lot. Become exceptionally competent. That is the focus. There is a really good book called "so good they can't ignore you". Cal Newport talks about how the process of becoming a high performer makes ANY activity highly fun and rewarding. Even careers that we might find boring at first can become highly enjoyable if our competency in that field is high. There is a reward and enjoyment that comes from being "a destroyer" at something. Interesting ideas in that book.

This is an interesting idea... thank you for sharing. I'm going to close my eyes and do this visualization now. I ended up visualizing myself 10-15 years older in general and asking "what do I want this person to be like? What is his life situation?" When I zoom out that big, I seem to think in terms of situation / personality traits rather than specific lines of work. In 10-15 years, I want to be a person who is so deeply present in the current moment that people feel "light" talking to me. I want to be deeply confident but still humble. I want to be in strong physical health. I want to have helped a lot of humans and animals and have big, borderline delusional, visions for helping even more. I want to have passive income that surpasses my expenses. I want to still be learning every day. Perhaps I have to adopt / augment some existing habits to get there: - Increase my meditation frequency - Lift weights more rather than just walk all of the time... improve my diet - Read more personal finance / business books to improve my financial literacy - Find a way to earn a lot ethically... and then invest it - Practice active listening when interacting with others I'm sure there is more but this is what this exercise yielded on this go-around. Well thank you - I definitely feel more clear after doing the 10-15 year visualization... even though it ended up being a more general visualization.

Well, let me tell you, this is not just a personal issue, but rather a generational problem. In the past, people simply went with the flow and did whatever made them somewhat happy, as the future seemed pretty certain and anyone with a trade career could support a whole family of four, including a house and car. Now, things are so different; people are contemplating whether to stay alone or just adopt a dog - let's not even talk about having babies. With this level of uncertainty about the future and no sign of owning a house by the age of 40, it's natural to start looking for answers. And, unfortunately, we often feel like we can't achieve what we want because of our perceived failures. Each day feels like time wasted, pondering what to do in a month, and our minds go crazy with worry. Let's just say: We need to stop carrying the guilt of society and worrying about things we cannot control. Instead, focus on the things you can deal with. Do the things you love, and if you don't know what that is, then great! know you know what to do! ... peace brother ❤
@rishikarri
@rishikarri 3 ай бұрын
@magnos1560 - thank you for taking the time to create this thoughtful response. I think you're definitely onto something with it being a generational problem - there are so many paths nowadays that didn't exist before. It's a beautiful thing but with more opportunities come more choices... and with more choices there is more room for overthinking. I have multiple friends who deal with this "career choice overload" problem. Doing things like journaling, meditating, and exercising are helpful for me to keep the mind from descending into fruitless overthinking... and then to have a fundamental realization that it's about the journey.... that not-finding is part of the process of finding... I'm still finding my footing... I think I've found peace in realizing that I don't have it all figured out yet and that is okay... that I'm still exploring, growing, learning, sharing. Maybe that process never stops. Peace to you too, friend.

It sounds to me like you have the superpower of ADHD -- since my current hypothesis is that most, if not all, polymaths have ADHD . So, if you haven't already looked into whether or not you do have ADHD, I would recommend looking into being diagnosed or at the very least watching lots of the youtube videos on living with ADHD to see if you can relate. In either case, what I have done to deal with your conundrum of where to start with all the things you want to learn/do is to write them all down as you think of them (I have an ongoing list of over 100 things I want to learn/investigate/do/teach/etc). Then go through it and move to the top of the list the ones that inspire you the most or capture your interest most right now. Then pick the top 2-5 and work on each one until you burn out, loose interest, or are distracted by one of the other ones. Then do that next one till the same thing happens, then move on to the next one. By the time you get to the 3rd, 4th, 5th one, the first one will capture your attention again. Now rotate through them, using the novelty of one you haven't done in a while to inspire you. It is often referred to as 'chasing dopamine' and following 'hyperfixations'. We can discuss more if this is helpful.

Make it cash flow positive - Run a mile under 5:55 - Spend 50 hours learning any form of martial arts - Go axe throwing - Play pickleball with my friend, Ryan - Open up a cat cafe with lots of cats roaming. A place for creatives to work on their dreams - Plant 10,000 trees - Record, edit, and post 10 KZbin Videos. Make the content as authentic as possible. - Post 100 tweets - Go to 10 yoga classes - Eat 150 grams of protein and 5 grams of creatine every single day for 30 days straight - Go to another silent meditation retreat - Go to a foreign country for 1-2 months and speak the local language every day - Actually do my physical therapy regiment and heal my wrist pain - Learn a new song on guitar - Get another software developer job…. one that pays $160K+ - Write and post a poem - Write a hip-hop verse and post a video of it - Build a simple internet video game using JavaScript Next I’m going to take the top 2-5 for me right now. Man, this part is hard. I want to do them all… But, here we go: - Record, edit, and post 10 KZbin Videos. Make the content as authentic as possible. - Play piano live in a public place and donate 50% of the tips to “pianos for peace” - Be able to play a single note on the bansuri - Go to a foreign country for 1-2 months and speak the local language every day Okay now the next step is to rotate through these 4, right? Work as hard on the first one until I want a switch and then go to the second, and then third, and then fourth, and then back to the first?

That's called the "butterfly effect". Small things.. whether positive or negative can make tsunamis of change.. it's up to each of us individually to determine if that's good or bad. "Grandfather, I have a light wolf and a dark wolf.. which 1 will win?" .... 'Whichever 1 you feed my child'

I really like that light wolf and dark wolf story. I heard that a while back but hearing it again with an older mind brings fresh thoughts. What activities are considered "feeding" the light, or dark, wolf? I'm thinking it's the actions we make each day. The thoughts we choose to entertain. The conversations we choose to fuel or let diminish. What do you think? What are wolf-feeding activities?

@JL-mc3ft - thanks for leaving a note. I want to make sure I understand your comment. Do you mean that it is indeed possible for a butterfly to create a tornado? If our mind is open enough?
