I have Mgus attributed by my oncologist to long term use of sertraline, an SSRI. After withdrawal, I've developed neuropathy and tinnitus, occasional shooting nerve pains and brief migraines.

Hi Dr Shah, Thank you for all your work in treating/finding a cure for MM. Do you all do any testing on the individual's blood using tests like RGCC, CMMC, BCMA, or NextGen to see what works to kill off cancer for that person in vitro then see of those results actually work in vivo? I'm very interested as I have talked to people who did these tests then by using the in vitro results they were able to get their MM (or other cancers) into remission. Thank you!
@michellepalmer5283Ай бұрын
I've heard more about RGCC (Greek test), and CMMC (there's a few clinics in Kansas I'm aware of that does this testing) than the other two.

Hi Beth! Toronto Canada. Diagnosed 13 months ago and post T-Cell transfushion. MyHebogloben has responded from 72 0n Febuary 28th to last weeks reading of 124! I can walk and move around again seemingly as free as I did before my symptoms began in March of 2023. I am so thankful and along with some fantastic care I have recieved from the medical community here in the Kitchener, Ontario region, it is my belief that my positive attitude was second in things that have supported this positive response and speedy recovery that I have and am experiencing. humbly said! I had my Stem cell transplant complleted on January 4th 2024 and again my Hemogloben went from the low 70's On average since January to 90 on Mar 28th with a 13 point increase in one week ending on March 28th. My Oncologist whom I seen 1 week ago informed me she wished to start me on a maintance program after a one month break from last week. My investigations so far on what to expect in the mediications involved in such a maintence progtam has left me somewhat anixious on what to expect as it appears we are on the edge of a whole new round of medications to be introduced through research and even some new considerations within the medical field on different considerations on which avenue one professional verses the other may lead their individual patients. Any general consideration or guidelines you could share with me that would put me in a position to be understanding of the different choices I will be discussing with my care team?

Dr Durie, if one has type 2 diabetes and have been told that one is highly sensitive to carbs, how might you modify this whole foods diet, please? Fruits: blueberries are it! Veggies: asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, green beans, Brussels sprouts are it for me and, even then, these must be cooked simply - steamed is fine but roasting is not. No root veggies, no lentils, no squashes, no flour, etc. Thank you, in advance, for any information you can impart. Yours in Gratitude

What is your M protein level?
@1GoldenBreeze2 ай бұрын
It depends. I have IgG Kappa, only trace M protein, but a kappa free light and ratio that is progressing. My hematology-oncologist has talked to me about needing to do a BMB if my Free Light ratio continues to rise. Bottom line, pay attention to your lab results, and if there are changes talk to your hematologist about it right away.
@JWB6712 ай бұрын
@@1GoldenBreezeI used the Mayo Clinic chart to push for a bone marrow biopsy and I’m glad I did since it showed I am smoldering multiple myeloma not just MGUS. It states that if you are igG Kappa like yourself (and me also), you should get a bone marrow done if your M protein is above 1.5 g/dL or 15 g/L and/or you have a free light chain ratio that is outside normal range. My M protein is low, but my free light chain ratio was 10, which is abnormal, but not crazy high. My bone marrow biopsy came back at above 10% which takes me out of MGUS. What is your ratio?
@MammaCass2 ай бұрын
@@1GoldenBreeze thank you. I think I’m still in mgus range just it’s stayed mostly level since they first discovered it. I consider it lucky that at least I get tested regularly for this; should it develop it should be caught soon, I hope. I know it’s not a great prospect having it in blood bonds or lymph system but I assume it’s better to be caught asap. I need to go back into my notes for exact results. I think my light chains are in the hundreds but they said it can get much higher before being classified as cancer 🤷🏻♀️ I will see what they say they are calling me in for scans and tests for lungs so I think they are calling me in on this too. My local hospital seems to be short on specialists in multiple areas so I’ll see what they say

Generalized comments bordering on the expected obvious, can hardly help people struggling against a potentially fell disease especially when the 'sage advice' is presented in a boring drone which does detract from the what the good doctor is struggling to actually come up with. Avoid by all means.

by "earlier", do you mean once the myeloma is discovered and not after a relapse? and if yes, does it apply to smoldering myeloma patients once the myeloma is activated? and last question, is the FDA recommendation apply in Germany?

From what I've heard, it can be given after two different treatments instead of four. I had to wait for four failed treatments myself.
