do u recommend synthetic oil if the bike is stored outdoors during cold weather and switch back to regular oil when the weather gets warmer?

The backfiring is the fact that the engine is running lean and your carbs need to be cleaned. Seafoam will help it run better but is not a cure-all. You should run Seafoam periodically during the riding season clean the fuel system so it stay running smooth. Also add Seafoam to the gas just before you shut it down in the winter for storage as it is a great fuel stabilizer. Your motor will start easier and run smooth in the spring too!

Backfiring means it’s lean, you’re not getting enough fuel into the engine, this means you need to clean the carburetor, it’s probably gummed up

Hi there, I’m trying to start a motorcycle that has been sitting for a while. Shouldn’t I worry about the engine locking up? Or the pistons scratching the cylinders? Should I do any pre clean up before trying to start it?
@Brownbrady3 ай бұрын
If it sat for under a year with fuel stabilizer, it should be no problem. You can flush and replace the fuel if it sat longer than that or if the fuel has gone bad. Cheers.

I personally ride it as I normally would- usually around 3k rpm when cruising, but every now and then I go full throttle- only thing I avoid is keeping bike above said 6k rpm for prolonged time- thus not going on track/trashing it on streets, otherwise normal

This was my first bike! I worked on that thing and fixed up tons of stuff on it, drove it up and down the interstate, winter and summer. It's true that cold starting is not it's strong suit. I used to blast engine starting fluid into the airbox every morning at 5 am in the winter to get it running, and let it warm up while I ate breakfast. Amazing bikes. Plenty of old goats told me so! Then I found out for myself!

The M50 was my first bike that I found to be a perfect learning bike. My only gripe was the 805cc caused me to always look for a 6th gear over the 6 year ownership. I am now on a m109r and Love the bike. Cheers!

The bike is quick and it comes alive a bit more from 6k rpm onwards. I've got the 21 model, pretty much the same but I get analogue tacho and liquid crystal clocks (not as nice) and a blipper. I really like the big tacho with the shift lights though. One thing on mine that is annoying, at low speed when you have to apply full or close to full lock the clutch bite point changes. I.e. full lock left the bite point moves closer to the bar, full lock left its farther away. I don't notice it at any other time, just have to keep it in mind or its easy to stall esp on full left lock turns. Anyway, hope you enjoy your riding

Or you could just read the manual and do as the manufacturer of the bike says to do. And then if you have a problem with the engine they can't say well you didn't do proper break in. And they know if you do it properly because of all the little sensors in the engine.
