Yea im going to stick with my lightfighter 1 tent. Tons of room, easy to set up and weighs about tge same. And it fits inside my molle2 medium with tons of extra room. If im gonna go with a bivy tent ill either use the snugpak ionoshpere or just use my mss bivy.

The gunslinger has similar issues with this one, being that they both have the full main compartment front zip and bucket that connects from the bottom with long straps up to the lid. Three things I would suggest. 1. Make sure that the lid straps closest to your back are as tight as they can be if your pack is not full. it’s meant to be a floating lid (as well as a Fanny) for potentially stuffing your pack full, even using the additional space in the weather guard. 2. If you do not have a full pack, you should be stacking the items in the main pocket vertically, as close to your back as possible and cinching down the sides of the pack to compress closer to your back. This will aid in keeping the lid from going down the front of your pack, as it needs even a little bulk toward the top to sit on. 3. There are 3 additional loops on the exterior of the bag, either side of the front zip pocket. If you take advantage of those with additional straps, it will help keep the long straps from the bucket close to the bag, allowing you to put a reasonably sized bag at the bottom of the pack. The loops are more likely built into the pack for running a shock cord ladder through, but having atleast 1 strap crossing the bottom of the pack horizontally would suck in the straps and prevent whatever you put down there from crawling up the bag or flimsily hanging there. The Modular sleep system that you showed is A.) heavy and inferior to other systems. B.) doesn’t look properly packed. C.) if you would like to keep that big heavy system, you should replace the stuff sack it comes with to a stuff sack that has compression straps that go up to the top of the compression sack, not just the sides. And D.) this system due to its bulk should be inside the main compartment of the bag, at the bottom of the pack. I do feel like you would be better served dividing the system into atleast two parts, where one sleeping bag is nested in the bivy and then rolled up tightly into a small compression bag, which you could then put on the outside on the bottom of the Tomahawk, and the second sleeping bag, put into a dry bag and compressed by hand before rolling the dry bag top to close it up. This would go in the main pocket of the Tomahawk at the bottom. I’m not trying to be snoody or hyper critical here. I’m just not so sure that it’s being used to it’s full potential. I will agree that the way they set up the rain cover is less than ideal. And the long straps from the bucket to the lid/undivided main pocket is not great. They fixed this with packs like the Operator, that has a divider, moving the point by which the lid straps pull on to the center of the bag, instead of the flimsy bucket at the bottom, while maintaining a large main pocket that can be divided or undivided. I am of the opinion that the laser cut Molle integrated bucket/beaver tail serves zero practical purpose. It would have been much better to provide a solid piece cordura with two sets of micro pals webbing (toward the front and back) for using shock cord to strap something lightweight or let wet socks dry, etc. Everything heavy you might put on the bottom of the pack, you would just use the bucket, as in between the pack and the bucket, so why have the molle on it? Anyhow, thanks for the video. I’ve never really thought out of all the Eberlestock packs they offer, that the Tomahawk was one that anyone would feel was fully thought out. Like you said, good ideas, but lacking in some important areas. I feel the same way about the Gunslinger II. Time to retire that thing and make the Gunslinger III for some of the same reasons as the Tomahawk.

It looks ideal for NON military load out. Grunts don’t have a choice of what gear they HAVE TO carry. I do. That pack looks very durable and practical. If it isn’t loaded down with eeaponry and blammo and other heavy items then the weight of the pack itself is really not an issue. Not super comfortable but it it is practical with potential. Great presentation Soldiers. Thanks for your service.

Couple thoughts, with all respect meant in the world... 1. I don't believe that bed roll needs to ride on the outside of the pack. It's visibly obvious the pack isn't packed full enough to need to lash it to the outside, so that should be packed inside to fill out the pack; if moisture is a concern, dry bags are great for creating those internal separations, when needs be. Plus, it's always good to try to keep the exterior of a pack like this slick and free of extra stuff, which can snag on brush, fall off accidentally, etc... 2. Right pack for the right job. A 65L pack is overkill for an overnight camping / backpacking trip, unless you are trying to be *very* comfortable, in which case, again, you'd want to pack that thing full to fill out the pack and really utilize that 65L of space. :)

Knowing how to properly set up and pack this military rucksack is key, I considered this backpack to be among the most comfortable options. While some may find the ACU pattern unattractive, I personally appreciate its color and design. I agree very much at 17:34.

Ratnik all the way. The USGI assault pack is good, but I am completely bias at this point because I have always preferred bucket style top loading packs/rucks. The two things everyone has these days on pretty much every pack out there is zippers and velcro.. the two things that won't last for nearly as much time, if it fails good luck replacing it. All your contents fall out at the worst times exc exc. Velcro may be fast, but it's loud, and it fails in pretty much most environments if exposed to long to the elements. It fails if it gets to much snow in it, it fails if it gets to much sand in it.. hell it fails if It is just used to much... velcro is crap.. literally the only thing you get with the USGI assault pack is organization and slightly faster access.. Seriously though.. its called "pack your most important shit that you use regularly on the top or on the side pouches, and put the stuff you don't need except for certain times on the bottom.. SIMPLE. Don't be lazy, plan out how you pack things and use your brain, not if it's convenient or not. Convenience kills just about everyone in the long run.
