ive recently started racing on zwift. though it is up and down with power during race. im trying to build up my time to exhaustion. my intention is to be able to hold as close to my ftp as possible for as long as possible. do you think zwift racing will help or i should do a consistent effort instead?
@tylerhannay21 сағат бұрын
yes as zwift racing will push you harder as it is competitive and give you a great workout without thinking about it and tap into those higher powers swell.

I have another question. It is recommended (at least for an amateur athlete) to spend 80% in zone 1 and 20% in zone 3 (in a 1-3 zone model). zone 2 should only be spent minimal amount in it. is that really the case? is training at tempo really not so good? it makes much more fun.
@tylerhannayКүн бұрын
I don’t think so for an amateur who probably is time crunched I think zone 2 is effective as it allows you to complete higher total workload and allows you to do longer sustained efforts like I talked about in this video and allows you also mentally to get used to doing long tempo efforts and having to mentally suffer through them
@tylerhannayКүн бұрын
@@99cya also if you do an Ironman or 70.3 your average or normalised power depending on the course will be in high zone 1 and zone 2
@99cyaКүн бұрын
@ thanks for your feedback. i fully agree and im glad you support the higher zone accordingly. of course in a long distance triathlon i will need to hold me back as much as possible simply because its a very very long day. but in a 70.3 i can surely go higher in the watts without blowing up later in the run so i will definately not keep myself only in the low intensity zones. i will, as you say, be way more often in the tempo zones for that.
@99cyaКүн бұрын
can we confidently say in general volume beats intensity? so instead of blowing up in 20mins with a high intensity effort its better to chose an intensity i can hold for 40mins or longer? to my knowledge, many people do too short workouts due to too high intensity and in the end dont spend much time in the targeted zone at all. do i get this right?
@tylerhannayКүн бұрын
yes exactly, total time in zone is a key metric that maybe people do not always use

Yes I think so as they will allow you to become one with the bike because you will be clipped in. Also you will be able to pedal better smoother and put out more power which in turn will make you go faster and make it feel easier. Hope this helps!

Were those threshold over/unders 115%/90%? I just built a workout for myself on Zwift almost exactly like that, but I'm starting with 1 min/2 min blocks (should be plenty hard enough for me). I haven't tried it yet, but you've got me motivated! Also, I would have expected something like those 3x12 and 4x4 workouts to be separate sessions. I presume that would be a better idea for mere mortals? I can't even really wrap my head around doing *both* of those back to back! Is that sort of madness typical for folks like yourself at the pro level?
