Yeah, that would have really sucked. Which is why I made sure to do a thorough check on everything before heading out on a trip like this. One consideration would be to make sure you grab the phone number of a gas station or the last stop you made along the way in case you need to get in touch with a local if something more serious happens along the way.

Thanks so much for such a great video. We are going end of March and are also staying at Compass Cove. Looks like a great place. How was driving to Mountain Pine RIdge. We are renting a Nissan Rogue 2 wheel drive. Did you go to Caracol in a convey. I read it can be a little dangerous going by yourself. Wasn't considering the butterfly ranch but after watching your video planning to go.
@TheTrailNeverEnds
@TheTrailNeverEnds 6 ай бұрын
Glad you like the video. The drive to Mountain Pineridge isn’t all that bad as long as the roads are dry. While we were there it had recently rained so there were a few spots that were really muddy, which can make it a bit tougher with just 2 wheel drive. My preference would have been 4WD, but were able to get by without. In regards to Caracol. We had read something similar, but after talking to some locals, they said that it’s not something to worry about. The drive is pretty long, so try and leave early to maximize your time there.

I couldn't find the, "What is this?", video on my KZbin app, so l'll try to answer your question here. It looks to me like that object is a chain drive tranny from the 1900's to the 1930's, when they were phased out. The big rigs used an actual chain to drive the rear axle back in the day. Watch some old black abd white footage of WW1 trucks and Golden Age movies, concentrating on the drive trains of the large trucks. I'm pretty sure that is what that object is.

I noticed you have a drone linked to you affiliate list. I’m going there in a month and ordered a drone but saw that the Belize laws didn’t allow drone so I actually sent it back for right now. Did you guys get hassled about the drone upon arrival?
@TheTrailNeverEnds
@TheTrailNeverEnds 6 ай бұрын
I actually didn't entirely do my homework before heading down there and just brought the drone with me. When landing at the Belize City airport, they did do a scan of the luggage as we came in, but no one stopped us and asked us about the drone. However, when I was talking with someone who lives there and also owns a drone, he was surprised that they didn't confiscate the drone when I entered and hang on to it until I came back. From that conversation with the local, it sounded like it would be easier to bring it in if you were driving into the country as opposed to flying in. I'd say if you didn't want to risk it, probably best to leave it behind. I did see that in general if you wanted to bring it, it needed to be authorized by the BDCA and only for professional purposes contracted by some local business. Which is unfortunate as there is some amazing views to be had from a drone there.
@raphaquan
@raphaquan 6 ай бұрын
In Belize the drone is forbidden, you have to have a permit to pass it through customs, if they find out they supposedly take it away from you. I have two drones in Belize and I use them very often.

great video. started watching/ subscribing to your journeys in alaska and continue to watch today. A part of what i missed is why the cabins? is this an AirBnb? i recall you wanting to use the bottom floor of your tiny home for an Airbnb.. are you still doing that or moving in this direction instead for more house space? one other offbeat question. I am rewatching your alaska series as we leave in May with our teardrop for alaska... I see you had a foursided clam style tent. Was it large enough for the both of you or would you have gone with 5 sided clam for more space? watching your videos, i know we need Mosquito protections and thank you for that!
@TheTrailNeverEnds
@TheTrailNeverEnds 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment and for subscribing. The remodel we are doing of the bottom floor area will become our primary living space. It still doesn't provide much space for friends and family who may come visit though. The cabins allow us to have a place for our guests and perhaps airbnb guests to stay at in the future.

In regards to the question on the tent. I think perhaps you are referring to the older roof top tent that I was using for awhile on the top of my Jeep? That was fine for weekend type of trips, but not as great for longer trips; which is why we went to the tear drop trailer for our trip up to the Arctic. The popup tent we used on that trip worked great for escaping from the bugs.
@NEWHAMPSHIREGUY
@NEWHAMPSHIREGUY 10 ай бұрын
@@TheTrailNeverEnds Thanks! yes I was referring to the white 4 sided pop up you purchased in alaska in desperation. There are larger 5 sided ones but weight is an issue always with teardrop and jeep. if the 4 sided tent worked for you, we will go that way. good luck with the project! let me know when to sign up for your AirBNB ;-)

Great use of the drone for the trip! I did the drive just over a month ago from Indiana and it’s like seeing it from a completely different perspective up in the air, I wish I still had my drone but was able to create beautiful images with my Canon. It took me 4k miles to reach the ocean! We diverted in the way back and hit Montana and Glacier National park. 100% recommend to anyone considering going up to Tuk. I didn’t have an overlanding rig like yourself, but it can be done in almost anything with decent conditions in the summer time.I took my Lexus LS sedan and made it out just needing a new windshield, worth it!

The biggest issue we ran into with the trailer was condensation. We were camping in some pretty cold temps and it would always have lots of condensation on the inside. Not all that surprised considering that the walls are just a single layer of plywood. I'm sure any of the teardrop trailers that are constructed this way will have the same issue. I'm thinking down the road of swapping the box out with something that is insulated. But that will have to come after all the other projects we have going on. Having the 180 awning was a life saver in the rain though. A definite must have.
