For anyone who doesn’t know what the ending is, let me explain: In the final release, there is a texture called *”sky_escape_01”,* which is actually used in the final version of *escape01* which looks like the skyline and some floating islands from the *Xen Boarderworld,* a location in *Half-Life* which I will mention upon later. This was theorised to be a *cubemap* which we will NOT BE GOING INTO. However, there *is* another place this texture is used. In a *2006 Portal Beta,* just like this one that was leaked from Valve, in the *escape01 VMF* of that beta is a visgroup named *”_steaming_refuse.”* This is where the player would beat *GLaDOS* (as *escape01* used to also be the final boss battle instead of being split between 2 levels). Then, the wall would crack, the player would portal through and end up in a rudimentary room just like the one at [ 38:48 ] but with a longer hallway that was more curved. Once exiting the aforementioned hallway, they would see *Aperture Laboratories* in the *Xen Boarderworld,* as the player character (not *Chell* yet, she was made a bit later on) would appear in a later *Half-Life* episode. But, that idea was likely scrapped in favour of *Aperture Laboratories* being underground and only being mentioned sparingly in the *Half-Life* cannon with the *Borealis* in *Half-Life Episode 2* and in *Portal 2* or being too difficult to fit coherently into the later *Half-Life* episodes. In the end, this is just one of the scrapped endings from betas like when *Aperture* was a *Nova Prospekt!* But, we’re *NOT* going into that!
