In the video, the base is connected via the POWER+GPS port, but in the User Guide, it says to connect to the POWER+XBEE port. Why is that?
@ardusimple
@ardusimple 16 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question! You can actually use any of the 2 with a different purpose: - POWER+GPS will give you access to the GPS data from a PC. - POWER+XBEE is useful to power the board via wall adapter, and then have the POWER+GPS free, in case sometimes you want to connect with the PC to check or change parameters. Both can be connected at the same time without problem.

Thanks for sharing your experience. The results you mention might be specific to the postprocessing software algorithm being used. Could you share with the community which one are you using? With the integrated realtime rtk engine (u-blox or Septentrio) from our experience the receiver is able to discard these lower elevation satellites automatically, and there is no need for manually adjusting these settings.

2:14 Is there a reference to " many satellites supporting the L5 frequency have encountered technical challenges remaining inactive or unhealthy years after launch. As a result fewer L5 satellites are currently fully operational compared to L2"? Any reference links would be appreciated.
@ardusimple
@ardusimple 2 ай бұрын
Latest updates can be found at an official webpage of the US government www.gps.gov/systems/gps/modernization/civilsignals/ if you go to the section of "L5", you will find "Pre-operational signal with message set "unhealthy" until sufficient monitoring capability established" and "However, L5 remains pre-operational and should be employed at the user's own risk until it is declared operational."
@GitFun
@GitFun 4 ай бұрын
The claim that L1 L5 is not cheaper than L1 L2 is not true. The end user is not interested in the cost of production, but in the purchase price at which it can be bought. And in the shops, L1 L5 devices are cheaper. And L5 corrections are now available almost everywhere. This video is misleading.
@ardusimple
@ardusimple Ай бұрын
The price comparison is only a small part of the 5min video. Prices change over time and tend to go down, when the video was released all the reliable units we tested had same price for L1+L2 and L1+L5. Notice that we are talking about RTK enabled GNSS receivers. L1+L5 non-RTK receivers are cheaper, but so are L1+L2 non-RTK receivers.
@GitFun

@@ardusimple the price comparison may be only a small part of the video, but it is an essential part and misleading! I am also talking about RTK-enabled GNSS receivers. L1+L5 RTK receivers are clearly cheaper than L1+L2 RTK receivers. Let me not make examples of competing products now...

Fully agree above comment, it's almost nonsense, you have never mentioned that L2 signal will be influenced by 2.4G band 400MHZ radio rather than L5, even now in some countries they made man-made interference, the most influenced frequency is still L2. In addition, when you mention that currently most of the CORS is L1, L2, I thought that you even dont know current situation, or you deliberately misleading the audience.
@ardusimple
@ardusimple 7 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment, you make very good points that we will be happy to discuss: - GPS L5 satellites today are still broadcasting with the healthy flag OFF: any receiver outputting raw data can confirm this. For this reason many vendors even if they have L5 in the specification sheet, today their default configuration is still with L5 disabled. - CORS networks. "Premium" CORS networks are indeed L1/L2/L5, but low cost (which are the ones attractive for low cost users) are still highly populated with L1/L2 receivers. Some countries have the luxury of having free L1/L2/L5 CORS networks, but this is not the case in the majority of countries and majority of installed base stations. After the launch of ZED-F9P 5 years ago, the number of L1/L2 base stations installed globally has boomed. - Interference immunity. Unfortunately in a 3 minute video it is not possible to go into all details, we only try to provide a general guideline. If you want interference immunity, go for an L1/L2/L5 receiver. Trying to guess if L2 or L5 will be less jammed it's just betting. GPS signal arrives to the ground around -130dBm (for the non techies this is dividing by 10000000000000 compared to a WiFi transmitter). Anything jamming L2 can potentially also jam L5.

Thank you for your comment. Note that the video is regarding low cost RTK receivers and not related to standard GPS tracking. Actually we have both L1/L2 and L1/L5 receivers in our portfolio and we are happy to sell both. But today the number of customers having a bad first experience with L1/L5 receivers in increasing, and we are just trying to make their life easier based on our own data.

Hello, why only dual band receivers of the same type as base station are able to use the correction data? What means "same type"?
@ardusimple
@ardusimple 19 күн бұрын
Thank you for the question. There's in general 2 types of dual band receivers: L1+L2 and L1+L5. Let us answer with an example: if you have an L1+L5 rover and you connect it to a L1+L2 base station, it will only be able to use L1 correction data, and not the L2 one. As L5 correction data is missing this will lead to very poor performance on your rover.
