I've visited Japan and done this exact ride in 2024, and two big things have changed - one for worse and one for better. They don't do any trolley service anymore, I've heard because of a lack of available labour due to Japan's population being in decline now, although I personally didn't mind since there's always plenty of interesting "ekiben" to choose from to take on the train. They've also gotten rid of the designated smoking areas - now you can't smoke on the train at all, which I'm low key shocked that it took them that long to phase out completely. The smoking culture must be stronger there.

I wonder if this would scale up well to buses? 🚌⚙💡 I might be from the UK where automated garages don't really work for untrained users (We had one in Edinburgh, it wasn't successful) but anybody who's ever been to New Yorks 42nd St. PABT will know _exactly_ why I ask this... 😇

What benefit does all this 'automation' have, just give me a nice bit of bitumen, let me leave my car there, it takes no people standing around (unless there is a gate or security) and less than a minute.

It seems they got new gates and LPR cameras. As you noticed, past LPR cameras were suspended from the ceiling. The new ones are mounted on the ground and offset to the side. Gates have a different color scheme and uses a different articulation joint.
